Kyle Turner?

Any reason the comparison needs to be in the first sentence? Eddie17 18:85, January 19, 2007 (UTC)

Real Madrid?

I cant seem to find any reference linking him in a swap with Raul Gonzalez at Real Madrid. Is there anything to back this up?

tribalfootball.com might help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yu5uF (talkcontribs) 16:19, 17 April 2007 (UTC).

Playing Positions

I have removed the nonsense in the infobox referring to Steven Gerrard as a right back. Just because he filled in at right back for the Champions League final does not mean he plays there. Its often been said that Steven Gerrard could play anywhere on the pitch and cause mayhem but that doesn't mean we attribute every known position to him in the infobox. Common sense??? Jamie 09:29, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

The "right-back" nonsense has been added again to the infobox. Can everyone keep an eye out for new users editing the infobox incorrectly. So far User:677325 is the main culprit. Jamie 15:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I personally think it's correct to list that he can play at right-back, as he has done so on many occassions, especially towards the start of his career. aLii 16:00, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
But the infobox isn't there to say where a player "can" play it is where a player regularly plays. John O'Shea (dare I mention his name) played for Man Utd recently as a fill in goal keeper and has done in the past. Does this mean a goalkeeper entry in added to the infobox?? The infobox is desinged to inform a reader as to useful statistics and the attributes of a players. By adding rarely played positions to it only serves to complicate and clutter a useful article tool. Jamie 12:26, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
oh.. right. yeah I agree. I hadn't noticed that you were only talking about the infobox :) aLii 16:24, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
In my humble opinion, given how much Gerrard played right-back at the beginning of the season, and how much he has been playing it recently, I believe would be entirely appropriate to list him as a right-back as well. The word is that Rafa is trying to convert him to a right-back anyway. Of course, a rumour is no reason to edit a fact, but I do believe if the current trend continues that we'll be seeing him on the right far more than in the center. (Though, as a personal note, I did love seeing him and Alonso in the center when it happened.) 24.251.147.57 05:37, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
He's playing at right midfield this season, not right back (in defence). He can play at right back, and has on rare occasions. He does play at central and right midfield. The infobox should list where he does play. KeithD 07:19, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
To be honest I don't even know why we are having this conversation. As far as I'm aware Gerrard has filled in at right-back on rare occasions. Never has he started in this position. Therefore there should be no reference to him playing as a right-back. Jamie 11:45, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Oi! I'm stupid! Got my positions mixed up! Forget I said anything. You all are right. :S 24.251.147.57 18:11, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Steven Gerrard is an OBE not an MBE

Sorry, i am not a member but i am a liverpool fan. Stevie G is an OBE not an MBE. He would have the title of sir if he was an MBE. Any chance someone can correct it?

Incorrect. KBE would be Sir, not MBE. In fact, MBE is a "lesser" honour than an OBE. Duke of Whitstable 22:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Reformatting

I've reformatted the article somewhat as it had become somewhat incoherent with some very long sections. I've split it up by season, although a few have been combined due to lack of content. Similarly, I've put all the transfer speculation into one section. I'll add a 2006/7 section just in case anyone thinks he's retired ;) Vanoord 13:55, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

when will the information be changed to say that Steven is an OBE not an MBE? Steven8gerrard (talk) 03:18, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Two Day Revert

I reverted to two days ago to remove a large amount of factual errors introduced by vandalism. --黒雲 user:Qaddosh 05:17, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

I think this could be featured as "relations with fans", since other Liverpool FC players have this feature. The fans are heard singing praise to Liverpool captain: the tune is "Que Sera Sera" ("Whatever Will Be, Will Be") and the identifiable words are something like "Steve Gerrard, Gerrard". Perhaps someone could give more information on this topic.

To be included on Wikipedia something needs to be verifiable. aLii 09:49, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

I don't think there should be a special section for transfer rumors. Why not just edit and remove it and add all those transfer info their respective seasons?-3E933333Boy

Due to high levels of anon IP vandalism recently on this article, I logged a WP:RFPP last night which was accepted. The page is protected from editing by new or unregistered users for a period of one week. Thewinchester (talk) 22:37, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

07/08 season

Can someone change the 07/08 section to read:

In Liverpool's first game of the new campaign against Aston Villa at Villa Park, Steven Gerrard secured Liverpool three points after scoring from a free kick, which was awarded amidst some controversy. The win marked Liverpool's first opening day victory in the Premiership since 2002. In the midweek Champions League qualifier versus Toulouse F.C., Steven was substituted with a suspected injury and this was later confirmed. His injury was a hairline fracture of the toe but he made a full recovery to play in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on the Sunday.

Istanbul penalty

The paragraph needs to be modified to an encyclopaedic tone. The wording is unobjective for a dive and is typical English interpretation. A Milan or any foreign player would have been vilified by the xenophobic British press and by English wp editors had he dived, but their darling Stevie G gets off with "winning a penalty". 121.134.46.54 14:38, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

A bit over the top?

"An inspirational and versatile midfielder known for his long-range shots and trademark defence-splitting passes"

I hardly think that this is appropriate. I mean, Gerrard is a good player, but by looking at the above discription, anyone would think we were talking about a player of Paul Scholes' class. Perhaps - "A versatile midfielder known for his long-range shots and his fairly good passes" would be better suited.

What do you all think? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.206.147.53 (talk) 22:12, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

I Dont know if its a bit over the top, but there is an article from McClaren citing as inspirational.

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hpV3oAp4QLf8MZJ26g_WyFzgEczw

That could be cited for the statement in question. Though I agree he isn't quite versatile, and rafa attempts to put him at winger are ultimately unsuccessful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slamdunka123 (talkcontribs) 19:02, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

The team record with him starting at right wing is (28-10-13). You can verify this at http://www.football-lineups.com/footballer/106/. I know this is a page for opinions, but unless you have facts to back them up, it's a waste of everyone's time. 69.134.125.12 (talk) 08:20, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

the section about him being captain for england

It isnt very neutral. It claims that the FA chose terry because he is from the south of england and the FA doesnt like northerners too much... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.160.181.134 (talk) 19:50, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Joining Liverpool

The main article refers to Steven Gerrard joining Liverpool as a schoolboy in 1987. Is this correct? He was only seven then. Millbanks 22:29, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Transfer Speculation

Nice balanced coverage of this. No mention of all the Liverpool fans burning their Gerrard shirts outside Anfield, the death threats to his family or the fat new contract he blackmailed out of the club.
