License?[edit]

I would appreciate an addition of licensing details under the "Data access" section. It would be informative as well as aiding Wikipedia editors in seeing whether their images can be used here or not. -- Northgrove 23:14, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aw, found out that it may not be used commercially without written permission, so it's not GFDL compatible. Bummer. :-( -- Northgrove 23:16, 24 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:SDSS SkyServer.png[edit]

Image:SDSS SkyServer.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Pea galaxies[edit]

I have added a link in the "See also" section to the "Pea galaxy" article as I'm sure that it is relevant to this subject. Richard Nowell (talk) 11:34, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that the following be merged into Sloan Digital Sky Survey. A separate article is unnecessary. A section within the destination article would best serve visitors.

Anna Frodesiak (talk) 17:14, 11 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think that would be fine. Unless the individual surveys articles are expanded on, they can be folded into the SDSS article just fine. Once the projects proposed for after SDSS-III start, we could add them to their own sections, though that would start to get a bit long. - Parejkoj (talk) 04:35, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Update needed[edit]

This article apparently has not been significantly updated since the SDSS-III completed in 2014. I've changed the tense of the prose in that section, but I will leave it to others more familiar with the subject matter to update and add to the information contained therein, based on what was actually observed. (And soon the SDSS-IV section will have to be similarly updated.) - dcljr (talk) 03:55, 30 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ScienceDaily reported that a purported BAO structure was detected in 2016 from Sloan data, and named Hoʻoleilana in 2023. See https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2023/09/230905202510.htm and also https://www.sci.news/astronomy/hooleilana-12250.html. The 2016 discoverers (Einasto et al.) did not believe it to be a BAO shell. Beyond that I couldn't understand the original journal article, https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/1538-4357/aceaf3 ~ 2601:441:5000:13E0:B194:985F:2FF7:147 (talk) 15:24, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

‘Fossil galaxy’ news item to consider for APOGEE section[edit]
