Article name[edit]

mixed teams[edit]

The article says, "In Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, it will be the first time when the tournament is going to be disputed by mixed teams." Does that mean mixed men and women? Or mixed disabled and nondisabled? Should be clarified in the article, as well as the article Ice sledge hockey at the 2010 Winter Paralympics, which does not say anything about mixed teams. --Mathew5000 (talk) 07:06, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sledge hockey → Ice sledge hockey – The actual name of the subject of this article is Ice sledge hockey. That was the name of this article when I moved it to sledge hockey because the article had been about both varients of sledge hockey. However, the inline sledge hockey has since been split out so I had moved it back to Ice sledge hockey. At which point I was reverted so I am going to do a request for move here. -DJSasso (talk) 01:37, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - both names appear to be in use in reliable sources. For example the first ref in the article refers to the "Canadian National Men's Sledge Hockey Team". Therefore per WP:CONCISE, we should stick with the shorter form.  — Amakuru (talk) 18:49, 1 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • The problem with that is that sledge hockey is ambiguous, concise doesn't really apply when you are disambiguating. The world championships etc are called the IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships.     But the comments above indicate that this page is a primary topic over the other one, and that the term Sledge hockey would continue to redirect to Ice sledge hockey even if the move goes ahead. That means there is no need to disambiguate this version against the more minor version, so concise still applies.   • The IPC's "About" page for the sport explicitly states the name change for the sport.
  • This IPC story on the upcoming qualification tournament for the 2018 Winter Paralympics calls the qualifiers the "2017 World Para Ice Hockey Paralympic Winter Games Qualification Tournament".
  • The official IPC site for the "A-Pool" of the 2017 World Championships calls the event the "World Para Ice Hockey Championships".
  • The IPC's official results page for all 24 games in the 2017 A-Pool consistently uses "Para ice hockey" throughout.
  • I'd have no problem with that either, I just don't think it should be at sledge only. Though common name might still be an issue at this point. -DJSasso (talk) 18:32, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 22 November 2017[edit]

With the sport having been officially renamed by its governing body to Para ice hockey I propose that we move this page to that title. Right now, the article is called Sledge hockey and its lead begins, "Para ice hockey, also known as ice sledge hockey (or, in the United States, sled hockey) is...". I propose the title Para ice hockey with a lead beginning "Para ice hockey, also known as ice sledge hockey, sledge hockey, or sled hockey, is..." Ensure redirects from all three also known as names to the article. There is currently no Wikipedia article for Para ice hockey - not even a redirect. I would create a redirect right now but I don't want to create additional complications for a move to that title if we decide to go that way. - EronTalk 21:47, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WP:COMMONNAME would be the issue. With the rename by the governing body happening so recently, the majority of sources would still be with the old name. The redirect should be created though. -DJSasso (talk) 11:55, 24 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You can't see the teeth that are one of the distinctive aspects of sledge hockey sticks in the photo. Perhaps someone has a better photo?Bill (talk) 21:51, 28 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
