Merge proposal[edit]

As it stands, this article has almost exactly the same scope as Non-canonical works related and derived from Sherlock Holmes, and many of the same examples are used both places. I strongly suggest a merge -- the overlap just leads people to waste time recreating content that already exists elsewhere. —Celithemis 02:11, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with DGG that the combined article would be too big. The non-canon article is already too big (I restructured it a while back with more subdivisions but it's still very unwieldy). I would incorporate the "inspired by Holmes" material (the final section of Non-canonical...) into the pop culture article, and make the non-canon article specific to non-canonical Sherlock Holmes stories, ie. ones that are centred on Sherlock Holmes himself. The article title should also be shortened to reflect this, e.g. "Non-cononical Sherlock Holmes stories". As for the "descendents of Sherlock Holmes" and "cameos" in the non-canon article, I'm fairly agnostic, they could go in either article, though I would personally keep descendents in the non-canon article, and move cameos to pop culture. This separation would help slim down the non-canon article, and as a lot of the rest is already duplicated it probably wouldn't add an enormous amount to the pop-culture article. As it stands, I was able to do find the material very easily with a search from Google, whereas the other article didn't show up. The topic of the paper I'm doing is Sherlck Holmes' influence in pop culture and this article was easily accessed.
