Bomber Fiction[edit]

This is an early example of the 'Bomber' story, more recently epitomised by works like Memphis Belle and Catch-22. A bomber crew has to complete 25 missions before they get redeployed to safer roles, they squabble and come together, the number of missions to complete ticks down and down until the final mission comes, which is absolute hell, leaving the captain to nurse his injured plane home against all the odds.
