Blatant opportunism over the Milly Dowler case and then vanishing when the Phone Hacking scandal emerged over it[edit]

Jesus Christ what a hagiography this article currently is, where is this bit?

Murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler was initially (and wrongly) suspected by police to have been murdered by her father. Later in court, the Defence used that fact to claim that Levi Bellfield was therefore innocent. After the trial (Bellfield convicted) the Dowler parents publicly raged at the Defence, with Casey prominently alongside them in media interviews and even joining in the raging with them (without ever claiming that the law would be changed - and indeed it never has been).

However it soon emerged that Milly Dowler's phone had been Hacked (by a Rupert Murdoch newspaper).

Knowing that any continued support of The Dowlers would severely upset Murdoch, Casey ever the opportunist then completely vanished from their side, never to be seen there again.

Civil Servant?[edit]

Are we sure that Casey is a civil servant? I'd assumed she was a public appointee, given the nature of her current (and indeed former) job and its pronouncement...

The sources often refer to her as such, and she herself said "I have worked as a senior civil servant for almost 12 years." [1]. I think calling her a civil servant is okay. Christopher Connor (talk) 20:00, 14 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's either true or not true; just because she uses it as short-hand doesn't make it so. If Boris went around claiming to be a police officer (as Chair of the Met Police Board) he'd also be wrong. Having looked through all the press releases, it's clear that she's a public official but not a civil servant (easy way to see it - she has never been listed by the Ministry of Justice in their list of all Senior Civil Servants), so I'll edit accordingly.

Substandard "Feckless Families Report"?[edit]

The article should include a link to this rather odd report - in which Ms. Casey examines only some 16 parents, and yet extrapolates up her conclusions to 120,000 families in the UK. Born in Cornwall[edit]

The article says that she grew up near Portsmouth. I am sure I heard it said on Desert Island Discs, when she was on it in March 2021, that she was born in Cornwall. If any one can find a source for this, her place of birth can go in the article.
