Character Names

I don't see the point for including Gina Von Amburg or Chris Kositchek for their respected actors that should be filed under past characters since they are not current. It is just confusing for someone not as current with the show. jcar03 01:41, 21 July 2007 (UTC)jcar03

I agree, it needs to stop. I keep deleting those names and someone keeps adding it back for spite, I believe.71.255.54.45 00:10, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Good! I wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one who felt this way before they were removed. I don't even think it lines up with the WikiSoapOpera guidelines that have been set up. 02:26, 22 July 2007 (UTC)jcar03
It's pretty foolish to add those past characters. They're no longer on the show! I just don't get it.71.255.54.45 02:42, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I disagree wholeheartedly. You have to list them somewhere, why have an entry in two places? Fact is these actors played these parts, you can't discount that regardless of personal feelings. As to the snarky comment of "adding them back for spite" that is far from true. They are added back for accuracy. The dates by the names give the time frame in which the actor played that character, there's no reason they shouldn't be there. IrishLass0128 15:05, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

:::::: I disagree. It is completly stupid to add these characters. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryPoppins878 (talkcontribs) 15:17, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

This is a factual list of actors and their characters. Thaao, James, Ali, and Kristian have all played dual roles and are still on the show. Their entries must reflect that. It shows an ending date. You can guild from that they no longer play that role. This was talked about on the project page some time back. Thank you for not "doing your own thing" and adhereing to project guidelines. IrishLass0128 15:28, 25 October 2007

(UTC)

It might be different if the character didn't also have an article, but this also serves as an index to all the articles about Days' characters. All prior cast members have a listing, leaving the names under the portrayer removes double entries otherwise you have to list twice. Once as current cast and once as prior cast. That makes no sense as these actors are still cast members, it's only the character. This is a CAST MEMBER listing, not a character listing. IrishLass0128 15:30, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

*Fine I see your point. I would however like to say that I much prefer the layout of the Y&R cast members article and then merge the current, recuring, comings and goings and deceased cast members back into the Days of our Lives article. Just a thought. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryPoppins878 (talkcontribs) 05:13, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, this is Days, not Y&R, and there list is just one big long list that includes everyone that's ever been on and you have to guess if they are still on or not. Very unorganized. My thoughts regarding Days' list. I think the way this is currently laid out is accurate, if any other current cast members have played two roles, I'm at a loss as to who. I agree that this is a cast list, which is different than a character list. If a member of the cast is current, regardless of the additional character's standing (dead, missing, flashback), both characters should be credited to the actor. And end date indicates they are no longer playing that character. CelticGreen 17:52, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
What about Renee Jones, Judi Evans and Brandon Beemer??
What about them? Renee and Brandon on the contract list and Judi is on the recurring list. Recurring is different than contract. Not sure what you're asking regarding this. CelticGreen 21:09, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
What I meanet was Renee Jones has played dual roles. Remember Nikki Wade?? So has Brandon and Rachal Melvin but I guess those were only guest roles so that should not count. And I also don't think that Bonnie Lockhart should be added to Judi's list since she is recurring now and was on contract when she played Bonnie. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MaryPoppins878 (talkcontribs) 13:21, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
No, one day guest roles do not count. Also, do not put unverifiable information. I looked up Frank Parker and Joe Mascola's information and neither appeared before their current roles. You seem to not understand the difference between a credited role where the character has an article on Wikipedia and a one day guest spot. Feel free to ask. IrishLass0128 12:36, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
You are making this a confusing mess by listing characters that are not current in the current Cast member list. Put them in the past cast list. It is not that difficult and makes much more sense then having them up top. jcar04 29 November 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.239.13 (talk) 00:12, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
No we aren't. It's not confusing at all. If it is, you just need to look at it a little to understand it. If necessary, although I don't believe it is, we can put a legend on the page but that really isn't necessary if you look at the page. BTW ~ the last user (MaryPoppins878) that complained was a known vandal and sockpuppet so their comments can be completely disregarded per Wikipedia rules any banned users future comments/edit can be deleted. Maybe I should do that since it's part of the guidelines. CelticGreen (talk) 00:40, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Judi Evans et al

Judi Evans is not on contract as Adrienne Kiriakis, and NBC has never listed her as such. It seems likely that Leann Hunley also is not on contract -- in all interviews she has given, she has stated her status as recurring. I left her name up, though, because it's always possible that may have changed recently. Before re-adding Evans as contract, please provide a valid source as per Wikipedia terms of usage. D'Amico 10:37, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

The problem with Judy Evans and Leann Hunley is their past history. They bounce from being on contract to past cast member to being back and if you put them in recurring, you lose the history of the character's timeline. I really think even the recurring cast should have dates by their names.IrishLass0128 15:01, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Tanya Boyd

Since when is Tanya Boyd on contract. Why would she be on contract There has been no confirmation in this anyway.71.255.58.21 22:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Matthew Florida as Ford Decker

Is he really on contract? I'm not on top of Days' casting with the contracts, but I don't think that's true! Can anyone confirm or deny this? Or did another user just accidentally add him to the wrong heading? I just want it to be as clear as possible! --Miss Burkle 01:45, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I've never seen any indication that Florida is anything other than a guest star. D'Amico 07:06, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Sadly, very, very sadly, they are giving these kids contract status the minute they come in and then releasing them. He and the bimbette trio at the sorority house are all technically contract status. IrishLass0128 14:58, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Wow... well, all right--was just checking. Thanks D'Amico and IrishLass! --Miss Burkle 02:35, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Wow is right. I just got caught up over the weekend and all I kept thinking was "who gives these kids contracts?" It's pathetic. Very, very pathetic. Personal opinion aside, the money should have been/could have been spent elsewhere than adding more college kids. RIP John Black.IrishLass0128 16:57, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Florida is not contract and has never been. You need to watch the end credits. DAYS does theirs in order of when the person joined the show (excluding Deidre Hall who gets an AND after the recurring actors air). The weeks Florida is not on he is not listed in the credits which means he is NOT contract. jcar03

When he was announced as joining the cast he was said to be on contract. Not that it matters. He's gone this week so why beat a dead horse?CelticGreen (talk) 00:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Older characters like Megan Hathaway and Renée DuMonde in the section of Prior cast members are not mentioned. Is this an incomplete list waiting to be expanded upon or is it just a summary of recent characters that have left? I see no reason for them to not be brought onto the list, unless if the fact that "dead never returning" is basis enough for them not to be on the list...? --Miss Burkle 16:47, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

My understanding it is for all characters, not just recent ones. I think Renee and Megan should be listed. IrishLass0128 17:08, 19 October 2007 (UTC)
A list of "past characters" and their performers is definitely notable and appropriate, but I'm going to suggest that perhaps it be a separate list, like List of One Life to Live cast members (current cast and celebs/deaths) vs. List of One Life to Live characters (everyone, including double roles). Links to both are provided in the main article in the Cast section, and the longer list noted is in See also. — TAnthonyTalk 15:46, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
We have that, but it's incomplete. The issue is how to list "Prior Characters" with Current cast members. Keep as is or add to prior. Right now they are listed below their portrayer in the current section. IrishLass0128 15:57, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Comings and goings

As the strike has happened, all dates are in limbo now so I removed the dates but left the months. I will update accordingly if the strike goes on for a while and future characters either come later or go later. As it stands now, Days only has three weeks of episodes in the "can" and it is unknown if the actors will cross picket lines to film shows. Stay tuned. IrishLass0128 14:15, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

    • Removal and addition of verifiable and non-verifiable information is subject to reversion. It was decided that in general recurring cast members of little note to the show need not be listed in comings and goings as they will be unlikely to be noticed. The character of Will Roberts remains in comings and goings because of his long standing affiliation with the show, he's been on for 12 years.
    • When removing a character because their last onscreen date has passed, be sure to put them in the previous character list.
    • Dashes at the end of a date are not to be removed until a character has had their last day onscreen and at that point they are moved to the past character list.
    • Any questions should be directed to a member of the WP:SOAPS and not implemented just "because you feel" something. Irish Lass
I don't know why the dates are in limbo right now. The show has episodes written to last through the end of January. If an official source is confirming the date you should put it in and if not keep the general month. jcar 29 November —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.16.239.13 (talk) 00:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, that's far from true. There are not episodes written until the end of January, there are storylines. There's a difference, it's called scripts. Storylines are written well in advance but the scripts are not. The studios put out stories in the press to appease advertisers and keep fans watching. You have to take what you read and read it again and again to understand what is going on and it helps to know people directly involved. CelticGreen (talk) 00:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Renee Jones

Her departure was confirmed in the Comings and Goings section of the current issue of Soap Opera Weekly. Victor and Nikki from Young and the Restless are on the front cover. 69.28.232.216 03:07, 11 November 2007 (UTC)samusek2

No, there is a blurb that indicates in Marcus Patrick's opinion that "when he and Renee leave, James Reynolds will be the only black left." No date was given and it's an assumption to put a date AND Renee's agent has refuted her exit. Even Marcus' comments are wrong since Tanya Boyd is still a recurring member of the cast. The blurb was a direct comment from a phone interview with Marcus. He's been off set for 3 weeks, Renee has not. CelticGreen 03:10, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Drake/John Black

For those wanting verifiable proof he's gone, see here. Thank you! CelticGreen 00:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Sourcing spoilers, contracts, and news

Unless it is written in a magazine or on the official NBC website, characters are not to be moved from recurring to contract. There are many so called reliable sources on the internet but they do not meet Wikipedia's verifiability rules. Jason's, Beth's, and other message boards do not count as reliable sources. Seeing a character listed in the credits on the screen does not count as verifiable. Sources must be verifiable. Please remember this. IrishLass 20:21, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Unreliable sources include Dayscafe.com. They are considerably unreliable and cannot be trusted as a source to edit pages by. IrishLass 21:08, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Unreliable also includes any fan site including Soaps.com (yes, soaps.com is a fan site and highly unreliable). If you don't read it in a magazine or on NBC, it is not reliable information. Please include references to where you got your information before updating the list. Thank you. IrishLass (talk) 14:14, 11 December 2007 (UTC)
Repeating ~ Fan sites are never considered reliable sourcing, this includes "Dustin" and "Jason47" both of which are fans with no connection to the show. Sources are put to the scrutiny of WP:V policy and a fan site does meet that burden. Thank you. IrishLass (talk) 19:12, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
Kristen Renton is on contract status. Someone keeps putting her back on recurring status. She first appeared on DOOL in September 2007 on a recurring role. But in December, she was upgraded to Contract status. Her contract appearance was on December 3, 2007. Please keep her in the contract list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Doolkid (talkcontribs) 23:02, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

new cast member?

http://www.soapoperadigest.com/news/breaking/

This is from the magazine's website. It's the first news item on top. 69.28.232.22 (talk) 17:48, 16 February 2008 (UTC)samusek2

It's a blurb with no date, just when he started filming (before the end of the strike). Further information must be available to know if he's a guest, a recurring, or contract, and when he'll arrive. Without that it's just gossip but I put it in anyway with a tentative start date. KellyAna (talk) 15:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Civility

It appears that some of the earlier threads on this page were being used to make negative comments about some fansites and the people who create them. This is a violation of Wikipedia policies of civility and no personal attacks. I have removed the comments, and archived other threads off the page. Reliability

It has been established after discussion that the Jason47 AOL site is not to be used as a source. Please do not reference information from his page in regards to contracts and their status. Thank you. IrishLass (talk) 19:31, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

It has been established by whom? KellyAna and IrishLass? Two usersnames that have been deemed to be sockpuppets of each other? I say if Jason47 has references that meet wikistandards than it can be used; if not, then it can't be. It is as simple as that. 24.144.14.23 (talk) 21:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
