Changeover to Deaths in 2024[edit]

Just a reminder that the seven-day "overlap" period at the end of each month does not apply at the end of December. This is because Recent Deaths on the main page of Wikipedia will point to Deaths in 2024 from 1 January. Accordingly, deaths from that date onward need to be reported on Deaths in 2024, rather than staying on Deaths in 2023 for the first seven days (which does not make sense in a new year anyway). Is it possible that someone can ensure that the semi-protection usually afforded this page, carries forward into 2024 ? I would suggest from experience, that IPs will have a field day if it is not. Thanks, - Derek R Bullamore (talk)
From experience, this cannot be done until the page is published (they won't protect a vacant anchor page). I have a browser tab open ready at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection, with a view to applying for vandal-level protection immediately the page becomes "live", though I expect others to also do the same, so we will see who gets the request in first, in reality. So Deaths in 2024 exists and is already getting quite a bit of disruption. Is it reasonable to request protection already? NotAGenious (talk) 20:12, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Contrary to previous years, Deaths in 2024 has been protected by admins before hardly a shot has been fired (hallelujah) - Deaths in 2023 is, however, now an unconfirmed users shooting match, potentially, as its protection has expired. It still needs an eye kept on it. Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 23:50, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
