How is this a rebel victory?[edit]

According to the media the rebels never managed to overcome the whole city and the surrounding area, and in the past few days the Syrian Arab Army has deployed a massive armored force and has been successfully counterattacking, even managing to enter the city proper.Ratipok (talk) 12:29, 4 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. The rebels have yet to take the Division 17 HQ right outside the town--so long as that's in SAA hands it's silly to say that the fight is over. I suggest we change the result to ongoing, and expand the article to cover events within Raqqa since the rebels moved in. Jat4345 (talk) 22:00, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I hope to find some free time to draw map of Raqqa. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.84.86.14 (talk) 06:58, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The map of northern Raqqa [1]. The Division 17 army base lies less than 500 meters from the populous areas of the city, hence it can be argued that it is part of it.Ratipok (talk) 23:33, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

2nd Battle of Raqqa[edit]

Jihadists push Syria rebels out of Raqqa.https://now.mmedia.me/lb/en/nowsyrialatestnews/jihadists-push-syria-rebels-out-of-raqqa http://blogs.aljazeera.com/topic/syria/armed-fighters-push-rebels-out-raqqa https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=406904536084557&set=a.150495128392167.28686.121855461256134&type=1Destroyer1812 (talk) 14:11, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine, but that's a separate event from the one that this article covers. We had five or six different battles of Kharkov during WW2, we didn't call them all collectivaly one big battle of Kharkov. Also, the sources don't really talk about any real battle for Raqqa, just that the jihadists, who already controlled most of the city, pushed out after one minor clash the one and only FSA unit in Raqqa that was based in just one district. EkoGraf (talk) 14:29, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Then just change the city under the control of the ISISDestroyer1812 (talk) 14:34, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I say again, this article is about the battle from back in March, in which both the jihadists and the FSA were involved, so the result was deemed as a collective rebel victory, not jihadist or FSA personally. Also, ISIS didn't still exist at the time or was yet even involved in the war, let alone be involved in this specific battle. Nusra was the one who led the fighting. ISIS was at the time known just as ISI and was still present only in Iraq. They renamed themselves to ISIS and started getting involved only since just this past summer. I agree with youDestroyer1812 (talk) 14:57, 19 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can I suggest renaming this to "ISIL occupation of raqqah" or something similar and perhaps merging pages so that it can all sit in one coherent timeline? just because it would greatly reduce duplication across various syrian conflict pages. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.208.221.108 (talk) 08:24, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Raqqa (March 2013)Battle of Raqqa (2013) – It's unnecessary to put the month of the battle. Operation 0 (talk) 10:40, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. There wasn't any other Battle of Raqqa taking place in 2013. Disambiguation at this level of detail, thus, is not needed. Impru20talk 10:58, 2 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox "Result"[edit]

Please note that Template:Infobox military conflict#Parameters states against "result" that "this parameter may use one of two standard terms: "X victory" or "Inconclusive"." The infobox has been amended to reflect this. Please read the template "result" guidance in full before amending or reverting. It would probably be best to discuss any proposed change here first to seek consensus. Thanks. Gog the Mild (talk) 13:25, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
