WWDC before 1988?[edit]

It's stated that WWDC began in 1983, but the table of events only goes back to 1988? This makes the article a bit confusing to read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.251.100.61 (talk) 14:03, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In 1988, the Apple developer conference was called the "Spring Developers Conference '88" and it was held at the Fairmont San Jose hotel in downtown San Jose, CA (I still have some of the conference materials to prove that). The first conference for Apple developers at the San Jose Convention Center was in 1989 (I don't remember exactly what it was called, but it wasn't Worldwide Developers Conference). In 1990, it was called "The 1990 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference" because Apple had been having regional developers conference around the world (Japan, Europe, etc.) before that. I was on the planning committee for the WWDC in 1990.

I verified some facts with Renee Rodrigue who was in charge of Apple's developers conferences from 1988 through 1992. Before 1988, Lia Lorenzanou had been responsible for spring and fall developers conferences.
After the 1988 spring conference, the decision was made to do one big conference a year, marketed worldwide, held in the Bay Area. David Szetela came up with the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) name
In 1988, it was the "Spring Developers Conference '88"

Untitled[edit]

The 2003 WWDC was scheduled to be in San Jose from May 19-23, but the location and dates were changed at a very late date, causing some attendees to complain about having to change travel plans at the last minute. --Luciuskwok 16:33, 29 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baseline Mac Pro?[edit]

Apple has assigned a baseline configuration for the Mac Pro, the 2.66 GHz, 1 Gb RAM configuration. This is the model that would be found in retail stores, all other configurations are build-to-order. Beta34 23:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your data corresponds to the default configuration (including a 250GB 7200UPM S-ATA hard drive), which is currently priced at ca. $2500. The data in the article corresponds to the minimum configuration (i.e. what you get when you select slower processors and less hard disk capacity), which comes at a discount of several hundred dollars compared to the default configuration.
I also thought "baseline" refers to the default configuration, until I read the technical data in the article (which I know is the minimum). NPOV[edit]

I don't see any particular bias towards Apple. I mean, is it not an Apple event? There isn't even any issue to debate, the WWDC 2006 section is pretty much just a summary of the Keynote speech, and the reported facts and figures therein. --Beta34 23:37, 29 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Huh? How exactly do you feel the article is "heavily biased" towards Apple, apart from the fact that it doesn't say how great Windows Vista will be when it finally comes out? The WWDC 2006 section is mostly just a list of market facts and product information that were announced at this event. I could have sworn there was a WWDC in 2002...

Their was, but at this point no one added information about it. I think Apple announced it stopped all development of OS 9, previewed Jaguar, and announced development of rack mounted servers; but if someone could confirm this with sources. WikipedianYknOK 03:00, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WWDC 2015[edit]

About an hour or two after the World Wide Doveloper's Conference today, I updated the WWDC 07 section with the products and features that Jobs introduced today. Later, someone reverted the change. Just incase you're wondering, the WWDC 07 has already happened. It needed to be updated.

References for the "Description" section[edit]

The "Description" section is marked as lacking of references. The only reference I could find about "All attendees have to sign a non-disclosure agreement covering the sessions and other material handed out at WWDC" is the following:

That section no longer exists, and I can't see any claim about signing an NDA. The only section marked with any complaints about references is now the History section, which is marked as having not enough references. So this issue appears to be resolved. Break each WWDC into a separate header[edit]

This page is a disaster currently. I highly suggest that instead of having a broad "2010s" section, that each event would get their own section on this page. "new object-based graphics layer (NSBezier)" ?[edit]

There's an NSBezierPath class that draws - you guessed it - "bezier paths", but the only google hits for NSBezier by itself turn out to be just dropping the "Path" part or adding an unnecessary space between the words. And a bezier path was just one thing you could draw in an NSGraphicsContext. WWDC is rarely referred to as "Apple Worldwide Developers Conference"; that term yielded 16,500 results on Google News while "Worldwide Developers Conference" yielded 42,700 results. Additionally, this recent press release from Apple calls the event "Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference", not "Apple Worldwide Developers Conference", and notice that the initialism is WWDC and not AWWDC.   • Weakly Support - For what it's worth, the article was, originally, called "Worldwide Developers Conference", and somebody suggested in § Rename Article that it be renamed to "Apple Worldwide Developers Conference", and it was moved back in October 2008 - and Apple do refer to it as "The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference" on the WWDC 2022 home page.
However, I find the WP:COMMONNAME/"unnecessary disambiguation" argument a little more convincing than the "but it's not a conference for all software developers in the world, it's for developers for Apple systems" argument.
So I can see both sides of the argument. (This may end up being the first place that the name choice is discussed here on the talk page. It's a good thing that it's finally being discussed rather than moved as shown above, moved back in 2012, and then unmoved shortly afterwards, all without discussion.)   • There is not a single other (notable) event called "Worldwide Developers Conference" besides Apple's. If we kept the "Apple" part for this article, might as well rename iPhone to Apple iPhone and CarPlay to Apple CarPlay. It is an unneeded disambiguation that serves no purpose to readers. I just don't think it's encyclopedically relevant. Even the table of merch rewards is probably excessive detail that should be removed (WP:MINORASPECT). Both go against the spirit (though not really the wording) of WP:INDISCRIMINATE, since they're contextless facts that are likely to interest few readers (except the winners' families), and the table will just grow every year and give more space to this pretty unimportant info. There's also WP:BLPNAME. Their names haven't been widely disseminated (only mentioned in breaking news stories) and their participation in the challenge doesn't necessary mean that they're interested in public attention. I prefer to avoid naming names of non-notable people when it's not relevant to an encyclopedic understanding of the topic. DFlhb (talk) 13:49, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
