On 19 January 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved to 2022 Badghis earthquake. The result of the discussion was not moved.

Oppose per WP:RECOGNIZE and WP:PRECISE. With the best will in the world, many people have not heard of "Badghis", which makes it difficult to identify where this event took place from the title. The event is commonly referred to in the news on first mention as being in Afghanistan too.[2][3][4] Finally, there may be many earthquakes in Afghanistan, but this is the only one (so far) that is newsworthy in 2022, so the title is precise enough per policy. — Amakuru (talk) 16:45, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Support: Earthquakes are unfortunately not uncommon in Afghanistan. The country is a highly mountainous terrain lying on numerous tectonic faults, most notoriously the Chaman fault. There could well be more than one incident in the near future. Dunutubble (talk) 16:46, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, that's a WP:CRYSTALBALL argument, such a case can be evaluated as and when it arises. Secondly, the future earthquake could easily occur in the same province anyway, so the same problem would apply. Probably better to disambiguate per month in that instance. Oppose with alternative option: I would suggest inserting a month to the title to help clarify. It sounds like the main argument in support of changing the title is to specify when and where this happened. The opposition is mainly stating mainstream news sources are using the generic title. I suggest keeping the title the same with the addition of "January 2022 Afghanistan earthquake" or the alternative that was previously suggested "2022 western Afghanistan earthquake" to address both issues.
