Title[edit]

@Cyclonebiskit: Congratulations on the new article; I myself have been impacted by much of this event. In any case, is it part of some standard or something that you put Texas before Oklahoma in the title? I would've done it the other way around myself (alphabetically, you see), but if you think this is a better title for some reason, I'll respect your decision. Also, Oklahoma City's monthly record for rainfall which was originally held, if I recall correctly, by June 1989 has been shattered, so May 2015 is the wettest month on record by a significant margin. Seems a bit early to speculate on the long-term historical impact and therefore appropriate name of the event. Right now I suspect it's a transient that will soon be forgotten... I remember being caught in a major flood in mid-June of 1976 in Houston, but I was also living in Austin during the flood in 1981, and my friends are reminiscing about the event I have no memory of... "Tornado outbreak" in title[edit]

A new issue has appeared. For a few reasons, I have to question the inclusion of "tornado outbreak" in the title; most tornado outbreaks have a date range in the title, but that doesn't appear to be a good choice in this situation. Earlier in May, there was also (less significant) flooding and a tornado outbreak. Could this be a cause for confusion? Dustin (talk) 02:15, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

None of these links is really helpful, a link to a graph during the height of the storms for instance, from NOAA or NASA maybe ('cause public domain material), could be considered. Or images from affected areas with telling content, from flickr, released under CC-BY-2.0, unfortunately there is not a single one, as of now. prokaryotes (talk) 03:04, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wow[edit]

This page really outlines the floods in Oklahoma. That four sentence paragraph really touches upon the thousands of people who lost everything and the billions of dollars in damage that occurred all over the state of Oklahoma. No need for a map of Oklahoma showing the counties that were under a state of emergency when the Governor issues one for the entire state. No need to post any pictures of the floods in the state of Oklahoma... Or the multiple tornadoes that destroyed homes in Moore and leveled the entire town of Bridge Creek, No need to talk about the record setting rainfall that occurred in the state of Oklahoma. You really knocked it out of the park with this one. I think you should add a few more sections talking about how Texans are a resilient people and deserve to be honored for living in the most important state affected by the recent May floods. You did a great job not mentioning Oklahoma anywhere else in the article but making sure to add Missouri, Kansas and Louisiana in your graphs. We just feel honored that you mentioned us in the title and allowed our state name to appear alongside yours during this very unfortunate Texas tragedy. Nice Work. Your sarcasm is neither needed nor wanted. This event is ongoing, and trying to keep up with constantly changing figures is tough. In addition, the editors adding information to this page have real-life responsibilities--I'm sure some people don't have the time to sit down all day and edit. But by all means, if you have the time and energy and know how to improve this article, go ahead and do it. I'm sure that would be much more appreciated than snide comments on a talk page. It's not so much that Oklahoma is being ignored as Texas getting more attention from what are already few total editors. The issue isn't that Texas is getting too much information, but that Oklahoma needs to be expanded upon. Some editors may be more interested in the Texas side of things, and other editors (such as you or me) may be more interested in the Oklahoma side of things. That doesn't mean we shouldn't help each other out and try to make sure that everything gets a decent amount of coverage in the encyclopedia. A lot of it depends on what's in the news (people are more likely to look up things in the news, for example) and where more people live. Its unfortunate that some sides of things are unfairly overlooked or given less attention, but that's just the way things go. Look. It's pretty clear you have an "everything is bigger in Texas" mentality. How about just doing an article on the Texas flooding and let someone else do one on Oklahoma. This article is an joke and a slap in the face to the thousands of Oklahomans that have been dealing with this weeks before it reached the great state of Texas. Most weather editors on Wikipedia are from the East Coast and have little to no interest in pitting one drive-through state against another. There's really no grand conspiracy at play here, as disappointing as that may be. Invariably, current-event articles remain woefully underdeveloped until after the dust settles. In the time you've spent reprimanding us you could have easily started the ball rolling on more complete Oklahoma information, and seeing as you've been editing for nearly a decade, you're just as much responsible for this article as any other volunteer. Move to "May 2015 North American storm complex"?[edit]

 – The title of this article is very important and the fact that there is information on the Mexico tornado within the body but that Mexico is not addressed in any way in the title is very misleading. The title doesn't have to be the suggestion I made above, however we should figure something out which addresses the three affected areas; Texas, Oklahoma and Mexico, and the tornado outbreak and floods within these corresponding areas. Since this article includes both the tornado outbreak in Mexico and the U.S. as well as the flooding, and that it was all the result of one large storm system, it seems to make the most sense to change it to this title. I just don't see any other way to incorporate the tornado outbreak and flooding into the title in a way that includes both Mexico and the US. A title such as 2015 United States-Mexico flood and tornado outbreak or 2015 North American flood and tornado outbreak just seems too vague and complicated. Pages with a similar format include October 2010 North American storm complex and January 2008 North American storm complex. Thoughts? --Undescribed (talk) 03:21, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It makes sense to me that the page title needs to be specified more. I definitely agree with the point that you made. I think that both the flooding and tornadoes are significant enough to warrant the move. As for the events earlier this month, the flooding; although apparent, was not nearly as significant as this event, so the title was able to focus on the tornado outbreak. However in this event both the flooding and outbreak seem to be almost equally significant. --Undescribed (talk) 03:32, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
My only objection to the move would be the fact that the page only seems to include one tornado in Mexico, which happened to have resulted in all of the deaths in that country. Although both the flooding/tornado outbreak in the US and tornado(s) in Mexico were caused by the same storm system, it might be better to move the Mexico tornado to it's own page since it was the only significant event caused by the storm in that country, and was not a "tornado outbreak." I think the words Flood and 2015 should be part of the name, and i think that "complex" sounds odd. But personally i think it should be something with this scope, like "2015 May extreme weather USA" prokaryotes (talk) 07:40, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Then what if we split the article to two different pages titled May 2015 Texas-Oklahoma floods and May 23-25, 2015 tornado outbreak? An analog for a U.S-Mexico tornado event was the April 20–26, 2007 tornado outbreak sequence. --Undescribed (talk) 11:42, 28 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

El tornado de Ciudad Acuña de 2015 se registró durante las primeras horas de la mañana del lunes 25 de mayo de 2015 en Ciudad Acuña; en el extremo norte del estado mexicano de Coahuila.

De acuerdo a la Comisión Nacional del Agua, el fenómeno ocurrió entre las 5:30 y las 06:00 horas, tiempo del Centro, alcanzando la categoría 4 en la Escala Fujita mejorada.[1] Sin embargo, poco después el coordinador de Protección Civil, Luis Felipe Puente Salas, ajustó la intensidad a quedar en categoría 3.[2]

El mismo día 25, la Secretaría de Gobernación informó de forma oficial que el tornado dejaba un saldo preliminar de 13 personas fallecidas y 229 lesionados; así como cerca de 1000 viviendas con daños, muchos de ellos totales.[3] El saldo de fallecidos se elevó a 14 personas el 27 de mayo, al perder la vida uno de los heridos hospitalizados.[4]
