[edit]In fact Yaguarón does not mean "big dog" but "black dog", the first interpretation is a common mistake. The ending "ón" is an aumentative in Spanish, but is not in guarani, where other words or gramatical particles are used instead. The name "Yaguarón" is a deformation of "Jagua-hũ". "Jagua" meaning "dog" and "hũ" meaning "black". Several geographic names have lost obvious conections with the original guarani words that made part of them because of early deformation or misswritting from the spanish colonists.
