Something that might be worth mentioning (i.e: I came here to see if Wikipedia knew more about it..) was the 'race riots' during 1988. I've been told a story (by someone who was an Ambulance officer in the area at the time) that a local hang-gliding enthusiast had a kite of his made up with the Australian Aboriginal flag design, and flew around the area, often within sight of the town. Most of the population thought it was awesome... but a minority had a Sputnik attack and took shots at the pilot. --203.14.156.193 (talk) 03:07, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
