In my opinion, Velakkathalas are not Nairs, they belong Nai(नाई) caste. In ancient times, people might not have known well about Nai caste in Kerala. So, they might have mistaken Nais for Nairs. The customs and rituals of Velakkathala and Nair communities are entirely different. Also, Nagavanshi Nairs never married from Velakkathala caste. Actually, you don't the marriages rules of Kshatriya Nair community. In Nagavanshi Nair Tharavadus marriages were fixed by Karnavars. If a woman is finding difficult to live with her husband she will talk to the Karnavars. Karnavars will discuss this matter and take a decision.
