"After having increased in organization, the system was designated as a tropical depression on June 14. Late on the next day, the system strengthened into a tropical storm, after which it was named Carlotta" you could probably cut this down slightly to "Following an increase in organization, the system was designated as a tropical depression on June 14, and became a tropical storm the following evening."
