Suggestions for a few pictures…

There are some pictures from the NWS office in Charleston that shows the tornado damage. Definitely fits Wikipedia’s copyright guidelines because it is in the public domain. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 17:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

I’ll also add that while very thoughtful on the editor’s part. Most of these pictures don’t really fit with what one would expect to find on a Wikipedia article about a tornado outbreak. And I think these pictures should be replaced with for example pictures of the damage caused by the tornadoes (or if we can find one, a picture of the tornado itself). But I will suggest to whoever put these pictures on here; that while Wikipedia is probably not the best place to put these. They’d be a perfect picture to put on Wikimedia Commons (that is literally the purpose of Commons is a free media repository). 108.147.10.55 (talk) 02:00, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
There are also pictures of the tornado damage on that damage assessment toolkit that at least one editor put a link to in the reference section. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 20:23, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Also PD like all other NOAA images I’ll add. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 20:29, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Yea, that's my bad. Most of the images (like the hail one) were the only images from the outbreak until a few days ago, and so I used what I could. Feel free to change them. MemeGod ._. (talk) 15:20, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Derecho?

Description on the main Tornadoes of 2024 page says this event included a derecho. Shouldn't the title and contents of this article reflect that? TornadoInformation12 (talk) 11:34, 13 April 2024 (UTC)TornadoInformation12

There was a derecho. There were Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and/or Tornado Warnings from western Virginia all the way back to Missouri. But there were also over 80 twisters. So the tornado part should also be emphasized. Perhaps the article could say “Tornado Outbreak and Derecho of April 1-3, 2024”.
But remember; the derecho was the one that produced bunches of tornadoes; NOT the supercells that formed after the derecho. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 16:50, 13 April 2024 (UTC)
Ok good to know. Traditionally, if a severe weather outbreak includes a derecho, it gets included in the title though, so I think we should move the page.
TornadoInformation12 (talk) 05:26, 14 April 2024 (UTC)TornadoInformation12
When the article was moved into mainspace, it was a derecho name. This was undone though and moved to the current title roughly two hours after the move into mainspace. So technically, there is a dispute between editors now on whether this should be a derecho name or outbreak name. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 05:52, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
I think we could compromise by including both names in the title. “April 2024 tornado outbreak and derecho” 2001:5B0:2363:34D8:3192:2BA3:D995:1F91 (talk) 12:26, 14 April 2024 (UTC)
Follow up: the article name was changed to “Tornado outbreak and derecho of April 1-3, 2024” by TornadoInformation12 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:1C9B:A8:C166:4B14 (talk) 18:32, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Tornado sections

I think a couple tornadoes in this article could use separate sections. The Prospect, KY tornado description is 2,115 bytes long. The Conyers, GA tornado had a section, but was removed sometime when the article was being reworked. Meatballrunfatcat (talk) 21:54, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

This article has some major issues

I guess whoever drafted the article probably drafted this before or during the outbreak; because a lot of the wording is present and sometimes even future tense.

That might have very well been a true statement on April 2nd when the outbreak was happening but it no longer is true now. ALL past and present tense wording needs to either be changed to past tense or be removed entirely. Remember, Wikipedia is NOT a newspaper. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 01:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

I do agree with the people on the talk page of Tornadoes of 2024 who say that there shouldn’t be any drafting of an article of this nature until after the tornadoes are over and damage surveys start coming in. 108.147.10.55 (talk) 02:03, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes. My house was hit by a tornado in this outbreak at 4am on the second. The stonefort tornado. I was there. The first tornado of the day was NOT in Evansville. 157.185.115.191 (talk) 02:19, 12 April 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, so the weird tense is because some kid made this article BEFORE the event even happened, based entirely on SPC outlooks and hype. He apparently had no idea that this isn't allowed. Gave him a real serious talking to and I can assure you he won't try anything like that again. The derecho element and sheer number of this event makes it notable though, even if underperformed in terms of intense, long-tracked tornadoes.

TornadoInformation12 (talk) 11:37, 13 April 2024 (UTC)TornadoInformation12

Yup, we had an entire 3-hour long talk about it. Like you said, the sheer numbers of tornadoes in the outbreak warrants an article. MemeGod ._. (talk) 15:18, 13 April 2024 (UTC)

Times listed are STILL WRONG!

The times listed are still an hour behind. Using West Virginia as an example. The tornado hit the Wayne County area at roughly 10:30AM EDT (which is 14:30 UTC).

You all have the time listed as 13:30 UTC (which would translate to 9:30AM EDT). The time you have listed is an hour behind the actual time (and thus an hour wrong!). Please correct the list!! 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:1944:733A:747A:2B8F (talk) 02:08, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

I kept inserting the correct time whenever a new tornado was confirmed and it kept getting undone and it gets listed in the wrong time. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:1944:733A:747A:2B8F (talk) 02:11, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
If you actually click on the links to the damage survey(s), you’ll find that the local time for many of these tornadoes in West Virginia was around 10:30AM to 11:00AM in the morning. West Virginia is in the Eastern time zone; and the event happened on April 2nd, which meant that daylight savings time was active. So factoring in DST, the correct UTC time conversion is EDT + 4 hours and CDT + 5 hours. I haven’t checked the tornadoes listed in the Central time zone; but whoever keeps converting the times is doing so by only adding 3 hours instead of 4 hours to the EDT time. Eastern time is 4 hours behind UTC; NOT 3 hours. I want this fixed ASAP that way no one is misled by the time listed. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:E966:B937:5134:55D4 (talk) 06:18, 17 April 2024 (UTC)
Update: the UTC times are still listed as one hour earlier than the actual time the tornadoes hit. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:50A0:DC39:51BF:2244 (talk) 04:38, 19 April 2024 (UTC)
Update: they finally fixed the UTC times. Thanks to whoever did it 12.75.127.5 (talk) 14:25, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

Can someone please archive many of these above topics that are now unnecessary on here?

Can someone please archive and remove the following entries from this talk page? 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:8D33:6C67:6107:2135 (talk) 04:52, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

1. The entry saying that the article (had) major issues. Including the tense of the article being wrong. They have since been fixed.
2. The entry saying that the UTC times are still wrong; as they have since been fixed.
3. The entry requesting that the name of the article be changed to include the fact that it was a derecho, since it the name of the article has since been changed. 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:8D33:6C67:6107:2135 (talk) 04:57, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
I tried to remove them myself (not knowing at the time that I had did it wrong); and someone reverted the edit and said it was supposed to be archived. Can someone please archive and remove the above points; especially the one about the UTC times being wrong (because someone could erroneously change the times and it would be an hour off again). 2601:5C5:4201:68B0:8D33:6C67:6107:2135 (talk) 05:07, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
A bot will archive the talk sections 5-6 days after the last message. I.e. this section (if no one else comments) should be archived around April 30th. Noting I just sent the bot up for this, hence why no archives have occurred yet as of this message. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 05:50, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Update: The Meme God images are now on Commons. They still need to be replaced (on Wikipedia) with images actually showing the full scope of the tornado outbreak (such as images of tornado damage). 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:C5F8:EAF6:E74F:F1B0 (talk) 03:31, 2 May 2024 (UTC)
I have since removed MemeGod images (unless someone re-adds them); don’t exactly know what I’ll replace them with. Pending decision by files for upload; there are some hail pics from NWS Jackson, KY. Haven’t found any flood pics yet. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:994F:43F1:5581:8D85 (talk) 05:50, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Damage pictures?

Two of the three pictures on this article are of what seems to be things you’d find in a normal thunderstorm (no offense intended); not exactly what you’d expect to find for a tornado outbreak article. Readers want pictures of the damage or pictures of an actual tornado. The pictures from “MemeGod 27” are already on Wikimedia Commons and he himself has said feel free to change them. I would but I can’t because I’m unregistered (and I have no immediate intentions of registering); so I am formally asking anyone who is registered to change the pictures. There are numerous public domain images available from the National Weather Service of the tornado damage. May even be able to attach a picture to the list of tornadoes. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:994F:43F1:5581:8D85 (talk) 19:57, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

There are some images from the Charleston NWS office at https://www.weather.gov/rlx/2024-April-2-Severe. There are likely other images from other NWS sites. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:994F:43F1:5581:8D85 (talk) 17:57, 3 May 2024 (UTC)
Have formally submitted a request on files for upload. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:994F:43F1:5581:8D85 (talk) 05:48, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Okay. I had added those because, at the time, I was one of the only users who had current images and photos that were not NWS-related or copyrighted. I'm honestly surprised they are still on there. MemeGod ._. (My talk page, my contributions and my creations!) 18:52, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
I had removed them for a time pending files for upload. When they only added NWS Charleston images and not the NWS Jackson images; I re-added the hail picture. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:5054:A7C6:AA2D:9AE2 (talk) 19:06, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

!nosine!

!nosine!

Is there any way that someone can tell ClueBot to stop archiving this particular entry. I’ve had to “un-archive” it twice (by copying the archived version back in the talk page and adding the !nosine! to prevent SineBot from erroneously saying that I’m preceding unsigned). But please, tell ClueBot to stop erroneously archiving this page, because I keep having to copy it back out of the archive and onto the talk page again. Thanks.

Map?

There needs to be one of those map images like some of the other tornado articles have where there’s a map of the convective outlook and the warnings and etc. 2601:5C5:4380:FD80:34DA:9942:A17E:6615 (talk) 19:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
