I've taken some of the plot info from this article and used it for the Mano entry. I wonder now if this article should be shaved down, retain the info about the character and the actor, but lose the stuff about the plot. It doesn't really belong here, does it? ---Jackel 19:32, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'd have to agree. -- Antaeus Feldspar 23:31, 18 Jun 2005 (UTC)
But, the master would not approve... - Ferretgames 00:20, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This article just cracked me up remembering the MST3K appearances and the Torgo theme music... Kudos, gentlemen. Postdlf 00:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have a question about the cloven feet thing. I've just watched the movie again, and he definitely appears to be wearing shoes in every scene in the MST3K version. Does he take them off at some point elsewhere in the movie?

I also have a slight reference, or trivia that I found cute. in the video game, Neverwinter Nights in the Moonstone Mask Inn, there is a merchant that your recieve a pass token from named Torgo. I believe this to be a reference to Torgo in Manos.--24.23.75.132 (talk) 21:37, 30 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Misidentified as a homage?

[edit]

"In the MMORPG World of Warcraft, there is a quest that involves killing a two-headed vulture named Torgos" – I find it more likely that the name of the vulture is derived from Torgos tracheliotus, the scientific name for Lappet-faced Vulture. --Anshelm '77 00:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Likewise the "Torgo's Executive Power" is only similar in name on Futurama... otherwise there is no real allusion to Manos. Sure, they list a lot of things by reference (Merseinne Numbers, sci-fi/popular actor names, numbers expressible as the sum of two squares, etc.) but I don't think it's a homage in of itself (When did Torgo consider the master an executive, or use powder?) 66.215.153.240 (talk) 21:54, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability in Question?

[edit]

Torgo inspires comedy, videos, action figures and t-shirts, and the domains torgo.org and torgo.com. He has theme music. His is a favorite costume -- just google images of "Torgo". His many fans include the readers and editors of this page. --Badams5115 (talk) 14:00, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You're mistaking "notability" for "popularity". Every idea, including every fictional character, has its fans. (I happen to be a Torgo fan, too, especially through his MST3K appearances.) The issue is whether we have sufficient information from reliable sources not only to document the subject objectively but also to demonstrate proven notability. ~ Jeff Q (talk) 15:21, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If original sources is the only qualifier of notability, then the entire of Manos The Hands of Fate is needed to be erased. Short of the film, a couple of articles and a MST3K remake, there's not much else to say that couldn't be expressed in a paragraph on MST3K which is very notable. The nature of cult film is that there is little sources to have been gained in the first place, which makes things like Manos difficult for use in Wikipedia.
Ignoring that problem, a middle-ground: I agree that notability is an issue for poor sweet Torgo himself, but not Manos-- why can't we merge this article back into Manos with this content whittled down into one-two paragraphs? The content on Torgo would add notability into the first article anyway. What's the big deal? 66.215.153.240 (talk) 21:44, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There is no benefit to a notability tag while there is a merger suggestion in place. Any decision not to merge will also address notability issues. - BalthCat (talk) 19:53, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes there is. The notability tag is really there as a request for sources to establish notability and nothing to do with the merge request. Rehevkor 20:07, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Both existing at the same time is pointless. - BalthCat (talk) 20:50, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not really. The issue was still very much a reality. The merger may have been a way to address it but wouldn't resolve it until/when the merger was complete. Rehevkor 21:40, 23 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
