Article name

[edit]

Is "Tokachi Airport" an accurate name for this article? The coordinates given lead to "陸上自衛隊十勝飛行場" on Google Maps, which I would have thought translates into something like "Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Tokachi Airfield". --DAJF (talk) 13:04, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It what's used in the AIP (requires a log in). It wass just listed as "Tokachi" and there was no listing at List of airports in Japan. But I also noticed that the Japanese AIP says Tokachi-Obihiro Airport is east of the city but it's clearly south when viewed in Google Earth so it's more than possible that the AIP is not correct. Also, if the Japanese AIP is anything like the Canada Flight Supplement then military bases may be given a slightly different name by the civil authorities. Foe example the CFS says that CFB Cold Lake is called "Cold Lake/Group Captain R.W. McNair Airport", though it should be noted that no AIP, no matter the country, actually uses the word "airport", "air base" or anything other than the name. I had a bit more time today to check some Japanese sources, and have gone ahead and boldy moved the article to "Tokachi Airfield". Hopefully the history details I have added to both this and the Tokachi-Obihiro Airport article will explain the background and relationship between these two airports. --DAJF (talk) 09:38, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. That look a whole lot better. Enter CambridgeBayWeather, waits for audience applause, not a sausage 14:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
