Proposed merger

[edit]

It has been suggested that six Houston-related articles: First Ward, Second Ward, Third Ward, Fourth Ward, Fifth Ward, and Sixth Ward be merged into one article—The six wards of Houston. Please discuss the proposed merger on Talk:Houston, Texas. —RJN 03:16, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

After skimming the article, I must have missed the section where we're supposed to describe the Third Ward as "scary as fuck". Could someone take care of that?

Note about block book maps

[edit]

While Harris County has block book maps of various places, there aren't any for Midtown per se as Midtown didn't exist at the time.

A part of the western Third Ward, along with eastern Midtown, were a part of the James S. Holman Survey. See the index map here: http://books.tax.hctx.net/v019/AE1997_19-20_0001.jpg and http://books.tax.hctx.net/BlockBooksPDF/v019/AE1997_19-20_0001.PDF

http://books.tax.hctx.net/v006/001307.JPG / http://books.tax.hctx.net/BlockBooksPDF/v006/001307.PDF indicates a "Dunbar School" but it seems to be the wrong part of town :( WhisperToMe (talk) 09:26, 25 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

BTW Holman Street Baptist Church's site is indicated in the "Corner Add" map (p. 296, Volume 56): http://books.tax.hctx.net/BlockBooksPDF/v056/AE1997_Vol_56_0189.pdf and http://books.tax.hctx.net/v056/AE1997_Vol_56_0189.jpg - the actual Map is Volume 118, Page 469

Third Ward Redevelopment Council

[edit]

GuideStar says it formed in 1994 https://www.guidestar.org/profile/76-0388773 and http://www.nonprofitfacts.com/TX/Third-Ward-Redevelopment-Council-Inc.html says it's based in the John B. Coleman Building.

I haven't found a URL for the group or updated info about its definition of the Third Ward. I wonder if it changed names or dissolved?

There is an Emancipation Economic Development Council but I do not know if it's related http://emancipationhouston.org/ WhisperToMe (talk) 20:34, 18 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
