Well, some one might want to change the link for "Jennifer Lopez", because it takes you to a page of the famous Jennifer Lopez. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.209.201.170 (talkcontribs) 13:23, 17 November 2004

From Wiktionary: fact (n) - Information about a particular subject. As far as I know the meterologists and logos are information about this particular subject. Do you also object to the mention of the logos of CBS or NBC or the mentions of Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather on their respective articles? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.240.248.69 (talkcontribs) 06:51, 19 October 2005

Why is she even credited on TWC as "Jennifer Lopez" to begin with?! Who are TWC trying to make us think the actual-and-well-known J. Lo is a meteorologist?! But if it was to attract attention, I'll go with that. --Roadrunner3000 00:58, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Weather Channel should use late 1970s weather maps

What do you think?

Proposed Mergers

This page links to a dozen substub bios of various meterologists. I propose merging these bios into the main article, except for any bios that are noteworthy enough to merit more than two or three paragraphs.

Merge

Keep

If you have any more to add, put them here on the Weather Channel talk page. — Lovelac7 18:13, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Other

How about instead creating a new article called List of Weather Channel Personalities (past and present)? Would that be a great idea? But before all of that, can we ge sone short bios of other OCMs, like Sharon Resultan and Alexandra Steele?--Roadrunner3000 23:05, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

Roadrunner, I have merged all of the OCM pages (except Jim Cantore and John Hope) into one page called List of meteorologists for the Weather Channel. (I also include abbrieviated bios of Cantore and Hope with links to the more fleshed-out articles.) If you want to add bios for Resultan and Steele, it will be easy to create a new section under that page. — Lovelac7 00:37, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Australian "Weather Channel"

Someone with knowledge of the Australian-based "Weather Channel" needs to develop a page based on this totally seperate Australian cable weather network, apart from the more famous one in the U.S.

Anonymous message

Wow, did Weather Channel pay for this site? It practically looks like their home page! I thought Wikipedia was "just the facts" not bios on every person who ever set foot in their doors and every logo the company ever had? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.118.78.4 (talkcontribs) 18:15, 19 September 2005

The Weather Channel executives know what is on.

The Weather Channel - Bringing Weather to Life ™

STORM STORIES?!?! at 11:00 PM. Ugh. Why those dirty bastards.

Well, these shows didn't air which was on the TWC schedule for a short time. The Weather Channel executives probably knew that I was a fool? Well, I think bad management has broke all loose at the network. I wanted to see "Charlie the Red Dog" on the Weather Channel, later in CST, in fact, they didn't air it.

I live in Alaska and the Weather Channel on our cable net work has soooo many typo's I am ashamed when I get out of town guests. Please have them PROOF READ before airing on public T.V. This doesn't make THE WEATHER CHANNEL look very good either. Take a look for yourself sometime. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.152.186.13 (talk) 20:00, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Australia

Was the Australia Weather Channel part deleted? There is no seperate page for it. I think it should be added/readded to this article like many articles which merge countries. Mike 19:30, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

Red links

I'm as much of a fan of red links as the next person, but do all these meteorologists merit articles? If so, certainly keep the redlinks. But I'm guessing that not all of these people are notable enough, despite being involved with the weather channel. I don't know much about meteorology, so could someone who does go through and de-link the least important of these? Thanks, Makemi 22:53, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree to an extent. I am going to gut all red links on -past-. Should we remove the rest for current or should they stay on? Binarypower 19:39, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't have cable, thus I don't watch the Weather Channel (except in hotels), so it's hard for me to say who is likely to merit an article and who isn't. If you have any knowledge of the WC, I'd suggest that you use your discretion on the current people. Makemi 20:08, 4 March 2006

They don't really know there was the program called Charlie the Red Dog. Oh, there is another show featuring a red dog called Clifford, but that is a PBS show and he is mostly a giant-sized dog. What I particularly mean is both of them have the same long ears and the same color of their fur for good measure. I know The Weather Channel ran this show from 1982 until 1991. That's enough for right now.

Physical location

The Weather Channel's offices and studios are now north and east of the I-285/75 interchange; that area is not considered Vinings by locals. It is in unincorporated Cobb, and is closest to the city limts of Smyrna and Marietta. Most locals consider that particular area to be part of Marietta, and refer to it as such, more than anything else. The more-or-less formal boundary for Vinings in that area is either US 41 or Interstate 75 (though Vinings is pretty much an informal designation that is more a part of Smyrna than anything else any more).

They moved from the Cumberland Blvd. location (which IS in Vinings) several years ago. --Mhking 16:45, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

The Weather Channel physical location is 300 Interstate North Pkwy SE, Atlanta, GA . Coasterghost (talk) 16:44, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Where is the TWC schedule?

Looks like TWC is now back to almost 24/7 live weather, I believe it started on June 12th and they probably have canceled all those old specials, but I am not sure. The channel could have changed their content of probably giving more airtime to meterologists and the weather.

What happened to List of Current Programming on The Weather Channel schedule? It redirects back to article of the channel. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 65.54.98.109 (talkcontribs) 01:59, June 14, 2006 (UTC).

The list was at List of current programming on The Weather Channel. As for the redirecting, it was getting hard to maintain -- that page was on my watchlist, and so I saw the edit that did that. Everything else will be ignored here per Wikipedia is not a discussion forum. --WCQuidditch 11:19, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I would like to know if there is any comfimation on the new OCM scheduel..

Past

Whats up with all the red links on the past? This is not needed as was removed previously. Binarypower 01:43, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Removed a lot of unnecessary fat from the article. Mostly red links and commercial schedules Binarypower 01:52, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
    • Speaking of red links, I removed (delinked) most of them overall due to the fact that it was mostly redundant (especially in the "programming schedule" section as well as this one). --Moreau36 20:29, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

Section Clean-up

I have cleaned up and revised the "Local on the 8's" section. Feel free to remove the tag from the section at your earliest convenience. It should read a lot better now. --Bdj95 05:11, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Subsidiary Companies of TWC

Speaking of clean up, someone should add a section talking about the subsidiary companies of TWC. This is a good source to start with: http://www.wsi.com/about-us-weather-channel-companies.htm Here's a sample from that page:

The Weather Channel® Companies (TWCC) include:
The Weather Channel – television networks and products for radio, newspapers, digital cable services, and interactive television
The Weather Channel Interactive – weather.com® and products for broadband and mobile platforms
WSI (Weather Services International) – premier business-to-business weather services, particularly for the media, aviation and energy sectors
Enterprise Electronics Company (EEC) – the world’s leading supplier of weather radar systems

This should probably replace the "other services" section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.150.120.245 (talk) 16:13, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Kristina Abernathy "merge"

That's not a merge, it's a delete/redirect. I propose that a real merge should be done, since that was the result of the AfD. Valrith 22:22, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Regarding the Heidi Cullen affair

We have an anon IP who is continually inserting right-slanted edits into the section on the 2007 blog controversy. For what it's worth, while conservatives seem to be trying to make this into a cause celebre (and there is some indication that this may be an astroturf campaign), the vast majority of the scientific community considers it to be a right-wing temper tantrum and therefore a tempest in a teapot. It also does not help that said anon clearly lacks the scientific background to be making knowledgeable contributions to this section -- no, you're not required to have a PhD, but a back-of-the-envelope understanding of the basic issues involved (as well as a firm grasp of the scientific definition of "theory") would go a long way towards knowing what is needed to comment knowledgeably.

As it is, the article fails to reflect both that anthrogenic global warming is in fact the accepted scientific consensus, and that the vast majority of Dr. Cullen's critics are coming from the right side of the political spectrum. Thoughts? Haikupoet 06:35, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

      • I noticed that the erroneous allegation in the Trivia section that Dr. Cullen had claimed that the "job" of the TWC was "not to report the weather" has been removed. The article still does not mention that Dr Cullen's views on anthropogenic global warming (AGW) are well within the mainstream of professional climatologists, and may impart the notion that AGW is still somehow "controversial" in the scientific world.bluetaco 23:59, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if it's just that I am not too smart or my English skills not enough (both things are possible), but the thing is that neither from the article section nor from here I am able to get whether Heide is backing the theory that human emissions are behind the globate warming or exactly opposite....maybe a clearer wording would help the not that smart guys like me? Mountolive 05:14, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
ps. I would open a new section called "criticism" or something like that, including, at least the following
  • exaggerated emphasis on the catastrophic dimension of weather vs the educational: of course I understand they have to sell and that forecasting a week of sun and a few light showers is not that exciting but, mate, last season they looked like they were eager for the bigger hurricanes possible, by the end of the season I think they were a bit dissappointed! Since this is very subjective, we can quote all the "it could happen tomorrow" stuff...
  • as I said above, I really don't get whether they are generally speaking backing the theory that global warming is emissions related or not but I suspect they don't. I am not saying it is, I don't know, but the consensus amongst meterologists is that yes there is a connection and this is very rarely heard, if heard at all, in TWC. It would be maybe interesting to rewrite this section to put the story in more plain words. Thanks!

Mountolive 05:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Is the section still notable? The "controversy" was invented by the political right; Matt Drudge linked to her article and distorted her point of view. Instead of pretending to be appalled at her opinion, why don't we criticize the people who anonymously left all sorts of nasty comments to her blog after this piece was published.

Plus, Wikipedia seems to be inconsistent at times. For some articles, a blog isn't considered a reputable source but apparently for this it is. I'm confused. This doesn't seem to be notable enough to warrant mention in the article. King Leonidas of Sparta 03:48, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

Weather Channel is boring

I am not sure The Weather Channel will survive for 24 hours, it is also a problem for other people who still don't watch the TWC. Since there are many internet sources for weather, nowadays, including local TV stations. --4.85.128.184 22:33, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Three Weather Channel personnel left in 2007 ?

Why are three weather channel on camera personnel listed as having left in 2007 ? All three, Cheryl Lemke, Sarah Libby and Warren Madden are listed on the weather Channel web site as being current …… [1]

BrianGV (Talk) 01:38, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm just going to put those three back in the listing for current personnel and delete the category for former personnel entirely. Seems like it was vandalism....

BrianGV (Talk) 20:27, 7 April 2007 (UTC)

I know, I'm sick of replacing Warren's name in there too, it's about the third time in a month I've had to do so. His biography is still on TWC, so that's good enough for me. He's part time on camera as he is a Hurricane Recon Hunter this time of year. Whoever the vandal/troll is needs to be blocked. Thanks Hdayejr 00:03, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

As of 7/8/07, I see Warren on the air around 2:30 pm EDT. Therefore, the trolling vandal should be blocked. Thanks! Hdayejr 18:39, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

It's just a case of trolls not reading the bio site, not all personnel are listed for some reason. TWC does appear to be a bit ignorant in not have all their bios listed. Leon harrison (talk) 17:26, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

This is no joke, no lie...

This is not a joke, nor a lie. I actually learned how to read thanks to TWC! When I was little, I read the hourly forecasts (there was no computerized voice at the time) and my reading skills actually got better! Angie Y. 10:24, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Twc2007.png

Exposures

Anybody remember this program on TWC in 1995 until 1996(or thereabouts). It was on Saturdays/Sundays at Noon ET and was similar to Storm Stories. They didn't make very many episodes, but I do remember this as being a program on TWC. Does anybody have some links or such, so we can start a section on this? Thanks Hdayejr 00:06, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Posted schedule

The schedule is dated for October 2007? The content is also incorrect (eg Storm Stories is not shown at 2pm in any US timezone). CosmicTDI 20:46, 19 July 2007 (UTC)CosmicTDI

  • Does The Weather Channel "sign" off the air at 2:00 at night, when they are unable to pre-record the earlier hours of "Evening Weather Edition."
  • No, so why did you edit the schedule and put that in there? --Spring Rubber 03:23, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
    • The channel is unable to pre-record the earlier hours of "Evening Weather Edition." Except when they do go live, during storm coverage, it is non-stop.

Also, the change in the schedule is incorrect.

  • I'm not sure what you're saying; they're always able to record Evening Edition West Coast. How are my changes incorrect? That is the current schedule, and it should remain that way until it changes. --Spring Rubber 04:40, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

Will their schedule change in the future? The Weather Channel does not pre-record their own programming at 2:00 at night, they are currently live in their studios, during storm coverage. If they are pre-recorded after 2:00 at night, or else they accidentally broadcast the test pattern, when they run out of tapes.

TWC is live from Midnight - 2 A.M. ET. The block from 2 A.M. ET - 4 A.M. ET is a rebroadcast of the Midnight - 2 A.M. block. --Spring Rubber 02:31, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm a fan of the weather channel. But... This is Wikipedia. An encyclopedia. Right?

I looked back at some of the earliest versions of this article and I saw how easily (and explosively) these types of lists grow. Many anonymous or inexperienced users find these lists an easy way to modify an article. Soon enough, the list (in this case, a programming list. Like TV guide) becomes the most prominent feature in the article.

I suggest that we remove the Programming Schedule section altogether. It's not encyclopedic. Rather, it's covered in TV Guide... E_dog95' Hi ' 04:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

  • That would probably be a good idea. Every time I turn around, someone is always changing the schedule to reflect rumors or complete nonsense. Even as it stands, the schedule included in the article right now is the future schedule. If anything, the article probably should have the current schedule, but like you said, any sort of programming guide serves this purpose, not this article. --Spring Rubber 19:50, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
OK. Thanks Spring...(or is that Mr Rubber?) With that, I'm going to move ahead and remove the section. The guide to what Wikipedia is not can be interpreted differently, but this, I think is firmly something that doesn't belong. E_dog95' Hi ' 21:29, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Warren Madden

Any reason why people keep putting him in "former personalities"? Seems like pure ignorance, I saw him on the air yet again this weekend. 65.31.33.93 (talk) 22:00, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

My guess would be because weather.com does not have (or no longer has) him listed in their pull-down menu of on-camera personalities. Thus, it would appear as though, to some, he is no longer with The Weather Channel. His profile, however, still does exist on the website. It's unclear why he's not listed. --DonDC95 (talk) 05:24, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

So, they had him in "freelance" before, why has it been changed since? This site is really starting to look like a stain to me, people reverting edits that are valid, and trying to improve this site is really a losing battle. My other beef is the WWTBAM page, that's a whole different quagmire. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.31.33.93 (talk) 18:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

I was just watching him on TWC, so why is he listed in former? Duh, and why have you turned the edit feature off. Please put him back in the on air personality list. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leon harrison (talkcontribs) 00:28, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

FYI, trolls are being watched

The ones who keep putting Lopez and Madden in former are being watched, and I am just waiting for you to revert those edits so I can report you. Try us. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Leon harrison (talkcontribs) 17:17, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Furthermore, it even says on this link[2], that it does not include all on air personnel. Of course, if the idiots who are vandalizing would read that simple line, they'd understand why those two bios aren't there. I sometimes wonder why people even try to improve this project, it seems there are many out to vandalize this site for whatever reason. Leon harrison (talk) 17:22, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

I did a test for a year. By keeping a simple candle lit at night you can predict the weather. This form of prediction is occultly because it takes into consideration the way the candle moves. You see, the candle stays in posi on clear months or the first weeks of the zodiac. The wind blows on the 3rd or last week of the zodiac. This is when a majority of harsh weather and storms occur. By the personification of brahma visnu and siva. Srry to destroy the relevance of satellite data. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.42.105 (talk) 00:06, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

The list of ocm's.

The content is not encyclopedic and is in clear opposition to WP:INDISCRIMINATE. The article should contain useful prose about notable persons, not "sprawling lists of statistics...(that may} be confusing to readers and reduce the readability and neatness of our articles." I think that if there's nothing to say about someone that has performed as an meteorologist for The Weather Channel then they're likely not notable. To support your argument: If you believe these folks are all notable, then you surely should be able to locate some sources and help me describe them. That would be most prudent as this is an encyclopedia, not simply a list of stuff. The anonymous user that removed the bulky lists of non notable persons was simply being bold and returning the lists to a more usable style of presentation. I support this change and will continue to add encyclopedic content to the list of notable persons. E_dog95' Hi ' 21:59, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Your edits make it seem like there's only a few of the OCM's, past and present, that are notable. You are also making it seem like there are only a few on the channel at the time. There are many many more OCM's that are notable and removing the list unjustly is just wrong. If you do that on this article, there are many, many articles, like TV stations, and other shows where you'll have to do the same. I do not support the changes you, and the anonymous user, have made. —TRAiNER4 (talkcontrib) 22:42, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
OK. My edits are summarizing the notable ocm's. That is what we do with this encyclopedia. We summarize notable people, places, and things. Listing, for the purpose of showing that "there's more than only a few ocm's", is contrary to the policy that I linked to above. A portion of the work that I do with Wikipedia is just this, removing the endless amount of lists, and converting them into really readable articles. For more perspective editors can use the criterion for good articles.
Please help me by showing why these meteorologists and scientists are notable and what their contributions to TWC have been. E_dog95' Hi ' 22:56, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
The article should remain as it is. The prose is what we're looking for, not lists. Also, part of your justification is based on WP:OTHERSTUFF. By this, I mean, it just isn't valid. I know you have the skills to help bring the status of this article up. Wouldn't it be cool to see this as a featured article? E_dog95' Hi ' 23:09, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
Where there is Stephanie Abrams, there must be a mention of Mike Bettes, as they are one of the top pairs on TWC... Same goes for Marshall Seese and Heather Tesch. I think these 3 should be added to the article. —TRAiNER4 (talkcontrib) 07:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Absolutely...Maybe we can trim some of the "other personalities"? E_dog95' Hi ' 13:47, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

The OCMs help define the public face of The Weather Channel. Their contribution lies in the consistent stream of information and the way they present it. The Weather Channel does provide some journalistic contribution (several information related programs / teams who roam the country to present a local angle to a national weather story, etc); Wikipedia has listings for other Televisioni Journalists. Therefore it only seems logical to list the individual OCM's with links to specific pages for each (like most other news outlets). DarkStarHarry (talk) 01:28, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

I recommend that those interested in naming all the ocm's make a new list article that covers everybody. I don't think that huge list has a place in the main article. E_dog95' Hi ' 01:41, 11 January 2009 (UTC)
I did this on your behalf. The new list is created at List of meteorologists on The Weather Channel and is linked in the article. We can summarize the main people here and go into detail over on the new list. Cheers. E_dog95' Hi ' 01:51, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Splits?

The article is approaching a pretty big size, and I'm thinking more could be done if the History section were split and the "Current" section went with it.

Possibly another thing that could be expanded is the Local on the 8s - I see that as a separate article, possibly at the Local Forecast or Local on the 8s pages. (If we want to cover The Weather Network, it would be at Local Forecast; TWC could go either way.)

I see the level of detail expanded if this goes through. Raymie Humbert (TrackerTV) (receiver, archives) 03:39, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

This seems like an article that could be effectively merged into the International versions section. Any reason why this shouldn't be done?--Rtphokie (talk) 16:02, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Logos

I noticed there were logos, then there wasn't, then there were... So what are some ideas that are floating around amongst some of the editors? Is there an argument for or against? Dawnseeker2000 02:59, 10 November 2009 (UTC)

Al Roker is NOT a meteorologist!

This Wiki mistakenly describes Al Roker as a meteorologist. He is NOT a meteorologist. He is a TV weatherman, period. He has no formal education in meteorology and is nothing but an on-air personality added to The Weather Channel when NBC acquired the station at the expense of numerous long time TWC meteorologists; Kristina Abernathy, Eboni Deon, Kristin Dodd, Rich Johnson, Cheryl Lemke, Mark Mancuso and Dave Schwartz. Personally, I cannot believe that Stephanie Abrams agreed to play second fiddle to Roker since she is a REAL meteorologist and not a meteorologist wannabe like Roker. Roker's slogan should be, "I'm not a meteorologist but I play one on TV". The professionalism of TWC took a nosedive when Roker was added. Thanks NBC. While this is 100% true, it should also should be noted that many others at TWC, both past and present are not meteorologists eithier. For example, one of my all time favorite TWC personalities Dave Schwartz (also axed by NBCU) has no formal education in the subject eithier.--Rusf10 (talk) 07:21, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Vocal Local

Is the background music played during these segments distributed nationally on cable, or can the music be changed at the local level? I ask because I have recently heard both Pink Floyd and King Crimson used as background music, and neither are smooth jazz. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.123.238.246 (talk) 20:31, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

no the music is distributed nationally, the weatherstar just places the vocals over it. In recent years TWC has moved away from playing smooth jazz towards more popular music like classic rock. I don't like the change myself.--Rusf10 (talk) 07:23, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
Wake Up With Al plays vocal music. Vanhalen1014 (talk) 01:03, 10 May 2011 (UTC)Vanhalen1014

New Graphics?

What are your opinions of the new graphics that launched on March 11, 2010? I personally don't like them at all, considering me to be an avid fan of the channel. The new sun icons look rather like "cheeseballs", IMO.

However, what I do like is that they brought back colors that are just like the Weather Star 4000. Also, on the smaller national Lower Display Line (LDL for short), The "weather.com" text is no longer Interstate. They have reverted it to the old Helvetica Neue font, just as it was when the original black LDL premiered in late 2003 with the Weather Star XL and later in 2004 with the IntelliStar through the August 15, 2005 relaunch. Carriage Dispute with Dish Network

i just found out that Dish Network is in a carriage dispute with The Weather Channel as the contract to carry The Weather Channel on Dish Channel 214 expire at Midnight on May 20, 2010, because of it, Dish is dropping The Weather Channel and replacing it with a new lower budget produced weather network known as The Weather Cast. Dish claims it's because the customers demanded a 24/7 weather work but The Weather Channel's website confirm it was due to a contract dispute.

here's the two links from both sides of the pending carriage dispute:

Dish Network: http://www.dishnetwork.com/weather/

The Weather Channel: http://www.weather.com/tv/programs/CustomerMessage.html

and the story from the Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100520-715627.html

this needs to be mentioned on The Weather Channel Wikipedia page--Boutitbenza 69 9 (talk) 23:21, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Edits to the Hurricane Slogans Section

I have made edits to the Hurricane Slogans section of the article due to the fact there was indeed some misleading info in the article.

First off, "Alert Mode (?–2002)" and "Storm Alert Mode (2003–present" is to what TWC calls themselves when a major hurricane (category 3 or higher) is within 36-48 hours of landfall in the United States. Another mislead of info with the Storm Alert info was that the term got discontinued in 2008. Due to the fact that a storm alert has not been seen in 2009 or 2010 yet is why I wouldn't say it got discontinued in 2008.

The term "Hurricane Central" was not used as a slogan in 2006-2007, but was what they called their hurricane desk for the 2007 season.

The slogan "The Hurricane Authority" was only used in 2006 and 2007, not through 2010. In 2008, they reverted to "Your Hurricane Authority".

I know that mistakes in my edit are likely possible, but why I put what I put was what I remember from seeing on TV and please do correct me on anything as long as it is not misleading. 15:12, 2 August 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by ZLMedia (talkcontribs)

Bob Stokes vs. Hillary Andrews Controversy

Why is there no mention of the Bob Stokes vs. Hillary Andrews sexual harassment case in this article about the Weather Channel? Stokes was terminated by the Weather Channel for on-air and off air sexual harassment of Andrews. It is certainly relevant, and could be included under the Controversies and Criticisms heading. I had originally thought that this was included on the Weather Channel Wiki page but seems to have disappeared. Here is the text from the Bob Stokes Wiki page: "Robert Elton "Bob" Stokes, Jr. (born January 1958) is an American television meteorologist, and formerly for The Weather Channel from 1996 through 2008. He co-anchored the weekend morning show Weekend Outlook during his last several years at the station. A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Stokes graduated from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock with a B.A. in radio, television and film and holds a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He had also been a member of the American Meteorological Society and held their seal of approval. Prior to joining The Weather Channel in June 1996, he had worked at KFSM-TV, KARK-TV, WROC-TV, WTVF and WREG-TV. He has been successfully sued in arbitration by former co-anchor Hillary Andrews for sexual harassment, in which Andrews alleged that he said sexual things to her.[1]" — Preceding unsigned comment added by StyloK (talkcontribs) 21:19, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

I just found a reference to the Bob Stokes vs. Hillary Andrews sexual harassment case on a Wiki page called "History of the Weather Channel" which I never knew existed and, in my humble opinion, should be merged with this page. I still think a reference should be made on this page under Controversies and Criticisms. StyloK (talk) 23:16, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
I disagree to the case. I read the article, and there's plentiful amount of information on the article History of The Weather Channel, and too much to merge with the main article. -ZLMedia 20:31, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Criticism POV check

I am asking someone to check the neutrality of the Criticism and controversy section as I feel that it may conflict WP:NPOV. Criticism sections are discouraged in general and that's why I want someone to check that particular section. Cutecutecuteface2000 (Cutecuteface needs attention) 17:32, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Abuse

Page needs a major fixing. Someone clearly abused the page and changed NBC to CBS, WeatherPlus to Accuweather, put in false statements about CBS meteorologists. I tried fixing things, but am just lost. http://www.nbcuni.com/cable/the-weather-channel-companies/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikestern2 (talkcontribs) 03:01, 8 June 2013 (UTC)

I agree. Weather Central and The Weather Channel are not one in the same, other than that the former was acquired by the parent company of the latter. --ZLMedia 12:45, 8 June 2014 (UTC)

Verizon FiOS Drops The Weather Channel.

This morning (3/10/2015) Verizon Emailed FiOS customers advising that the agreement to carry The Weather Channel had expired and was not being renewed. In its place, Verizon is carrying rival Accu-Weather's network broadcast. The Weatherscan seen on channel 49 (SD) is also being replaced.108.20.70.105 (talk) 10:15, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

@Cyberbot II: My wiki skills are pretty basic and didn't know the best way to respond. I checked the two archive links you added above. The first to the archive of the WSJ article on DISH TV seems to be fine. The second to the archive on the article on weather.com first leads to a wayback machine page that says, "Got an HTTP 302 response at crawl time," and it then redirects to a page with a "404 error--not found; The requested URL '/press_detail.asp?id=296' was not found on this server." That said, I think if this article refers to footnote 46 of the main article, I found an original source link that still seems to work: http://www.theweathercompany.com/newsroom/2014/08/19/dish-network-and-weather-channel-reach-agreement. Suggestions for List of Personalities

I saw the section, Notable current personalities and have a few suggestions that may improve its structure and readability. Since this page has had a long tradition of participation, I will leave it to those with more knowledge about the subject matter to evaluate whether to implement any of these "drive-by" suggestions:

  1. Consider creating a superheading, Notable personalities with two subheadings: Notable current personalities, containing the first four sections it currently has; and Former personalities, which would include the content of the current fifth section of Notable current personalities.
  2. Assuming the word "current" remains in a heading, consider ways to eliminate the repetitive "(- present) after each name. "Current" in the heading implies all are still TWC personalities. One way to do this, for example, would be to include a note at the beginning of the list stating that the year in parentheses identifies when each personality began working at TWC. I suspect there are other ways to do this.
  3. I noticed that the roles of the current personalities are spelled out (e.g.,"Alex Wilson — Weather Center Live"). In contrast, with one exception, the roles of the former personalities are not. Consider being consistent. [The one exception among the former personalities, "John Coleman — co-founder of The Weather Channel; retired," is also the only one in that group without the dates of his association with TWC included (1982-1983; see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_The_Weather_Channel#The_early_years_.28May_1982.E2.80.93March_1986.29).] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drbb01 (talkcontribs) 03:23, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Bias

Requesting a header detailing the the pro-weather bias on this channel. It seems only fair to acknowledge the perspective given by the channel as a whole for the benefit of a reader who is unaware of the direction from which the weather channel is attempting to lead the viewer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:646:847F:B2F0:2190:8BCA:EA02:16D8 (talk) 15:51, 31 May 2019 (UTC)

IBM sale

I made a change on Jan 30th that seems to be reverted, so it still says this is owned by Bain, NBC, etc. Anyone know what that was changed? Was my modification incorrect? Thanks. -KaJunl (talk) 00:50, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

According to this TheWrap article about the sale, the Weather Channel is still owned by Bain, Blackstone, and NBC. IBM bought Weather.com, Weather Underground, and the other digital businesses. FuriousFreddy (talk) 19:59, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

I propose a rewrite or breaking the article into two. Currently, it's not clear that the digital assets and the television channel are owned by two separate companies. Gamerzworld (talk) 13:22, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

At the bottom of any page on weather.com, it currently says "The Weather Channel - An IBM Business" BrianAshe (talk) 19:57, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

Weatherscan no longer owned by TWC?

Hello, Wikipedians. Do any of you know if TWC is no longer owning Weatherscan? TWC's logo has been off Weatherscan since March 29, 2016 and has not reappeared. It has been unknown if this is a glitch or if this is a new update, and it is also unknown if TWC is no longer owning Weatherscan.

2601:8D:8700:778A:6CCE:9FFB:58B0:76F0 (talk) 18:23, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

  • Weatherscan dropped TWC's logo so they can drop their references in favor for Weather Group Television. The Weather Channel and Weatherscan are still in the same company, though. Weather Group Television just wanted to have references for Weatherscan. Also I have corrected your grammar.

Other Weather Channel Meteorologists

If you are a fan of TWC Meteorologists Chris Warren, Liana Brackett, Alex Wallace, Alexandra Wilson, Greg Postel, or Mark Elliott, you may have noticed that they are not mentioned on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keybeeny (talkcontribs) 23:04, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Kelly Cass is listed for possible deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kelly Cass. The outcome there should probably be reflected here. For now I'm restoring the link to Kelly Cass; if it's deleted we can remove it then. —Guanaco 06:29, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

More of the others, like Reynolds Wolf and Jen Carfagno are very weakly sourced as well, more AfD:s might be the way to go. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 11:05, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

The entries for Goodloe and LaRosa are the most weakly sourced by far. However, thanks to your contribution and others, the entry for Cass is now one of the ones with the strongest sources. Keybeeny (talk) 13:46, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

If that´s right, then it´s time to delete some articles about weather people, Cass included. But probably not Al Roker. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:22, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

"Probably" not Al Roker? You either have an understated sense of humor or live outside the United States. Keybeeny (talk) 20:52, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Yes to both, it was an attempt at humor, even I have heard that name. Otherwise, the only weather-person my brain bothers to know the name of is John Pohlman [3]. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:22, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
