Fair use rationale for Image:Fastballtheway.jpg[edit]

Image:Fastballtheway.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Why the huge biography?[edit]

I don't mean to be a buzzkill here. I love the song, where it drew it's inspiration from and the biography of the couple that inspired it is pretty well written. However I do not see the need for the paragraphs and paragraphs about Ray and Lela Howard in an article about the song. For now I'm going to remove this section. I think the "Inspiration" section provides enough of a backstory of the couple for the purpose of this article. Rather than having this article act as a joint article for the disappearing couple and The Way, the Howards should be given their own article if you believe their story is notable enough for Wikipedia. Thanks. MobileSnail 20:10, 14 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I sincerely disagree... I came here specifically to read that biography again and was very upset that it's not here any more. I don't see who it would hurt to explain what inspired this song in more detail? :( Can you put it back, please? I don't know even where to go to find it now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.169.113 (talk) 07:57, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It can be replaced, however I see no need for the section regarding the song's inspiration to take up more space than information about the song itself. I think the current format with a short summary about the song's inspiration is most appropriate here. I suppose the couple might merit their own article if enough content is available about the story. RoboCop 05:23, 30 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Music quote / cover / plagiarism from Tom Jones' Delilah ?[edit]

Is it just me or does The Way sound just like resampled Delilah? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.24.220.167 (talk) 13:31, 29 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WP:NOTFORUM. But yes, it totally does to me too. Keresaspa (talk) 20:07, 23 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bésame Mucho[edit]

The article about the song "Bésame Mucho" claims that "The Way" was inspired by it. Can this be verified? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.122.154.37 (talk) 03:24, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if the band has owned up to it, but it's clearly the same melody in the verse. I'd add it but it's my own OR. I took a quick look and found forum posts that claim Tony Scalzo has freely admitted borrowing the melody, but didn't find any interviews where he actually did so. Anyone??? -- But|seriously|folks  01:14, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I’ve always noticed this striking similarity in melody which always struck me as being way too much of a coincidence ever since I first heard the song when it came out on cassette.  Do you have a link to the source where Scalzo admitted to lifting the melody from “Bésame Mucho?”  Because if that source be credible, that IMHO would warrant mention in the article as giving proper credit and attribution for the source of the melody in order to prevent potential accusations of plagiarism  —PowerPCG5 (talk) 07:29, 14 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move[edit]

The Way (song)The Way (Fastball song) – the 1998 UK No.21 song should have already been fully WP:DABed when The Way (Daniel Bedingfield song) 2005 song got an article, but now The Way (Ariana Grande song) March 2013, number 10 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, removes any case for prolonged ambiguous disambiguation. Songwriters[edit]

It is factually incorrect to assert that Madonna, etc., was a songwriter of this song...the work of those listed writers is sampled, as the article states, but none of them substantially contributed to the actual construction of the song. It seems that all of those names should be removed, in order to not convey misleading information to readers, thanks. Caro7200 (talk) 15:09, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, and I've removed those. They were added by Havigjorah, pinging in case they want to make the case for including them. Schazjmd (talk) 15:35, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Gigi D'Agostino Cover[edit]

Gigi D'Agostino's cover of this song is explicitly mentioned in the page for the relevant album (L'Amour_Toujours_(album)) and it links to here. The album had high popularity in the early 2000s per Billboard Magazine, as mentioned on that page. I'm not going to challenge @ResolutionsPerMinute if they personally feel that album/artist was too unimportant for the cover to be mentioned here, though. Osieorb18 (talk) 22:44, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Osieorb18: D'Agostino's album was what experienced success, not the song. Just because the album's page links here doesn't mean we need to mention the cover, especially if you fail to provide a reliable source. Not every cover is notable. ResPM (T🔈🎵C) 22:54, 15 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
