Re: Speedy Deletion[edit]

To those that contest the speedy deletion of this page, please provide evidence of how the band meets WP:BAND criteria for a Wikipedia article. Thanks. Leuko 06:13, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In a way the reason given for possible deletion of the The Octopus Project's Wikipedia article is confusing. To explain the real significance of The Octopus Project one would need to offer testimonials by those who buy the band's records and go to its shows, which is a substantial number among the local music community, but that of course is not possible.

However, Wikipedia specifically outlines guidelines for deletion of non-notable musical groups, in which a musical group must have certain criteria to be declared "notable" and thus avoid deletion. The Octopus Project shares many of these criteria. The band has:

1. Undertaken a national tour of the United States, playing locations in the Southeast, Midwest, and West. Most notable among these is their recent set at the 2006 Coachella Music Festival.

2. Has won a notable music competition, in which a fan entered the band in a MySpace contest, which in fact enabled the band to play the internationally-known and respected Coachella Music Festival.

3. Been featured and reviewed well in the respected and prominent indie online journal, Pitchfork Media, which selectively chooses which albums to review and which not. The link for a review of their second album is: Pitchfork Media review

Recognizing these criteria, I, the author of this page, strongly dispute the case for deletion of this article, The Octopus Project. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Barnnabbus (talkcontribs) .

Ok, so not a candidate for speedy deletion. Please add these points to the article with verification from independent reputable sources, otherwise may still be a candidate for WP:AFD. Leuko 06:52, 26 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
