Meaning / origin

As far as I know, the sentence "Thank you for your service" is some kind of adressing a not personally known veteran in public to express someone's respect, usually replied by "Thank you for youf respect". I wonder why this is mentioned neither in the book's nor in the movie's article. Gwele kloz (talk) 06:27, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
