This is more a piece of advertisement than anything else. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.76.197.9 (talkcontribs) 8 January 2007

I agree. I have placed in the {{advert}}-tag. --ZeroOne (talk | @) 22:33, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. I have written this article almost from the ground up, 99% of the modifications and additions to it are mine - and I can tell you that there is no advertising in this. I am in no-way affiliated with TAGES SA, as you could also check my IP ranges - they're all Israeli, whereas TAGES SA is a French company. I just like to state facts professionally. You could see that no information was concealed, and I have mentioned some problems with the protection. Do you have any knowledge on this protection system to confirm or refute anything I wrote? //Anonymous author.

Not only is this article written like an advertisement, it's highly slanted (I suspect the TAGES company may have had a hand).

The TAGES System can be fairly easily circumvented either by using a fixed .EXE file, or a CD Drive emulation system. Also, it is fairly well documented.

http://www.cdfreaks.com/news/TAGES-launches-new-commercial-site-including-funny-quotes.html makes fo an interesting read, as it shows the TAGES company has a history of misrepresenting their products, and cherry-picking claims for use in advertiments.

I wrote this article almost entirely. I have no connections to TAGES SA whatsoever, also check my IP, it is Israeli - while TAGES SA is a French company. I just find the software security industry interesting, that is it. Advertisement? please prove so before bringing up baseless speculations.

Advertisement or not it is really, really slanted. Can anything be done to clear out the bias in favor of TAGES? - mixvio 20:21, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I am not associated in any way to TAGES - I wrote this aritcle due to sheer interest in copy protection systems, and yes - I respect copyrights; the inner workings of copy protection system is not information for the general public to see; and is protected under copyright laws. Such information can obtained only from the reverse engineering of protected prodcuts, which is against their EULA.
If the article is slanted, it's slanted, no matter who you are. And for the record, while we can see your IP hails from Israel, the domain name is proxy.012.net.il, it's listed here as a proxy, and it has port 8080 open, so we'll take your lengthy protestations about the nature of your IP address with a pinch of salt. --82.45.163.18 14:16, 15 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It is your choice whether to believe me or not. Try this current IP instead. You just can not stand opinions which are in favour of your feared DRM. Right? and I did not even express any opinion here. What about my mentioning of a working emulator and a bug within a device driver? slanted? When I edited the StarForce article to remove bias, people cried foul. Same thing here. Perhaps wikipedia really is an experiment in anarchy. BTW, Ruud, why don't you participate in this debate, adding dispute marks to pages is something you're good at, but as to explaining your behaviour, are you not?
This is really offending. I will make no further contributions with Wikipedia. Is this how you treat knowledge? Goodbye. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.155.54.130 (talk) 14:02, August 22, 2007 (UTC)

NPOV

[edit]

I have edited the article and believe it has now reached NPOV. Nikos 21:40, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There might be a few more things to edit such as the company quotes to make it more neutral. Quotes and be references instead in the form of links JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 22:07, 8 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

tages has been already broken a long time ago

[edit]

On Bittorrent theres a cracked version of Arthur and the Minimoys which uses Tages and VFS.

So Tages has already been broken by hacker groups.

Can anyone put that in wikipedia, cause tages had been broken.

another flawed copy protection scheme. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.148.148.124 (talk) 01:44, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

wikipedia is not a platform for illegal activity discussions, btw - TAGES+VFS is not an absolute entity, it all depends on the level of implemenetation of a given case by the software developer, don't open your mouth and talk on subjects you have no idea about. The same protection system can vary in stregth. Plus, why do you even care for it being broken? only one reason comes to mind - a DRM hater.
You might want to tell the people at Crime that they shouldn't have written that article. Btw, why do you care why others care about stuff being broken? Some people don't mind DRM; the only people who like it are those whose paychecks depend on it. But I wonder what it's like to be such a person, who gets paid as a professional to write this software, and is then defeated by people who get paid nothing to do it in their own free time. Personally, if I were in such a position, I'd make angry posts on Wikipedia to lash out, shortly before killing myself of embarrassment over my own incompetence as a programmer. Ham Pastrami (talk) 17:33, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You have no idea how complex is the process of DRM systems development, your assessment as if the only people who "like" DRM are "those whose paychecks depend on it" is false, I work in the software industry, our product is not protected as it need not be, although I acknowledge the vibrancy of copy control measures to secure revenues. Not all copy control measures are getting cracked - some withstand for monthes (after which security does not matter, as the product has passed its sales peak), so your entire argument does not hold. "shortly before killing myself of embarrassment over my own incompetence as a programmer" - quite sad, really.

BTW, do you understand the notion of "programming" at all? // The original author of this article.

I tried editing it to make it sound more like an article and not an ad

[edit]

But I was not successful so I put the spam tag on it, had no choice but to do so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JasonHockeyGuy (talkcontribs) 18:11, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reworded the witcher part a bit

[edit]

Before it said "the copy protection system deleted NPCs from the game" which is of course mince. It's the game developers who caused the NPCs to be deleted. It also wasn't clear that the next sentence (the one talking about false positives) therefore meant the game was silently triggering this behaviour. Reworded to make clear. For what it's worth, tages claim on their webpage not to do blacklisting of emulator products; I'm not qualified to determine the truthfulness of that (or whether it only applies to their new products and not old ones, or whatever) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.41.11.155 (talk) 03:59, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Goodbye

[edit]

I am the original author of this article, written two years ago. I will no longer contribute to wikipedia due to the ongoing abuse of my work. Goodbye. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.179.124.95 (talk) 17:41, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone is a contributing author to the article, that you initially created the page gives you no special privilege or consideration, and the fact that you have continually attempted to prevent changes that were initiated by multiple other editors (most of whom intended to bring the article in line with encyclopedic standards) shows that you don't really understand what Wikipedia is about. Have a look at WP:OWNERSHIP, for starters. But if you're serious about leaving (this time), never mind that and have a nice day. Ham Pastrami (talk) 20:33, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Providing information about means available for protection circumvention does not, and can not, consitute constuctive editing. As I said in the previous disputes - people are quick to praise open source software, but are trigger-happy regarding DRM.

Yes, this time I am serious about leaving. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.179.24.189 (talk) 15:49, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are entitled to that opinion, of which you are the only editor thus far to hold. Knowing how a copy protection system works is factually neutral and pertinent to the topic. That people dislike DRM doesn't affect the neutrality of the information (plus, Tages isn't necessarily DRM, it's just copy protection). Omitting this information is tantamount to protecting the vendor's commercial interests, which is absolutely non-neutral. The comparison against open source here is a straw argument, a copy protection system can be made open source, but vendors choose not to because obscurity is the backbone of these systems... and that fact is another valid criticism of these systems. See Security through obscurity. Ham Pastrami (talk) 02:30, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:RS. A forum is not a reliable source, ever, ever, and ever. I really need to exercise more due diligence in policing such articles. hbdragon88 (talk) 05:16, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh no guys, what have you done? Anonymous IP guy is taking his ball and going home!

[edit]

Seriously, can't you see that everyone should just agree with him? What is this thing, some sort of exercise in socialism or something? This guy wrote this article 27 years ago in a single titanic act of transcendent Truth and all you morons clearly don't know what you're talking about, so Mr. 79.179.124.95 should be the final arbiter of truth on this subject, and who are you anyway to edit what he wrote? He's some random IP address somewhere and he SAYS he's unbaised and that's good enough for me, why do you people always have to nitpick about "neutrality" and "factual criticisms", can't you see you're making someone on the internet upset? So upset that he doesn't just leave, he ANNOUNCES that he's leaving! Only people who are Really Important announce they're leaving, so this guy MUST be really important! Someone track this guy down and tell him to come back, wikipedia desperately needs more giant egos to get into pointless edit wars about unpopular copy protection schemes! P.S. if anyone deletes this edit I will TOTALLY write an angry comment about leaving. Possibly several times, in case the first one doesn't make you feel enough remorse, though I can hardly see how it couldn't. I'll make a separate heading and everything, in case you guys want to discuss it for a while or something. Don't worry, I won't actually leave, I'll obsessively come back and check on it just to make sure you're really sorry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.196.168.18 (talk) 05:48, 14 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Incompatible?

[edit]

"The Tagès copy protection system is incompatible with multiple versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system, and is employed on CD and DVD discs."

Should that read "... is compatible with multiple versions ..." instead of incompatible? Or is this software I really don't want on my PC? 94.30.69.91 (talk) 16:42, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yeeeeeeeeeah, you don't really want Tages on your computer. I mostly avoid games with it, it just makes life unnecessarily more complicated. (119.224.18.251 (talk) 01:18, 29 November 2010 (UTC))[reply]
Tages is incompatible with at least the version of windows I'm running (win7 home premium 64bit). I installed a game and windows displayed a warning every startup about an incompatible driver being disabled to ensure system stability, even after I uninstalled it. 121.212.7.160 (talk) 15:48, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
