Reykjanes / Suðurnes
[edit]Should be merged with Reykjanes. They are different names for the same region. Gnarristi (talk) 16:42, 17 September 2011 (UTC) Done
- Actually, Suðurnes is just an administrative unit and as such only part of Reykjanesskagi (Reykjanes Peninsula). Also there is a lot of small peninsulas in addition which also are called "Reykjanes" in Iceland, eg. the Reykjanes in Ísafjarðardjup.Hornstrandir1 (talk) 09:41, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- The Reykjanes which is linked to, is actually again something else, it is the southwesternmost part of Reykjanesskagi, also just a part of the Reykjanes (big) Peninsula. The names should also be explained, "smoking small peninsula" (obviously a lot of them in Iceland), Reykjanesskagi would then be "smoking big peninsula".Hornstrandir1 (talk) 09:45, 21 August 2020 (UTC)
- That's not right. Reykjanes has tradionally either referred to either (1) a small peninsula at the "heel" or (2) a much larger peninsula that is bounded in the north by Hvalfjörður and thus includes all of the Greater Reykjavík area as well. Suðurnes also used to refer to a smaller area than it now does. I agree though that the use of these terms have been converging on to the same general area. --Bjarki (talk) 07:53, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Another note is that Suðurnes is actually plural in Icelandic so a verbatim translation would be Southern Peninsulas (which I'm not sure is a proper thing to do here). The term refers to several smaller peninsula on the outer Reykjanesskagi. --Bjarki (talk) 08:15, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Duplication
[edit]Noted a 2016 article move copied a section on Reykjanes volcano in an article on Reykjanesskagi to here that has resulted in confusion with later writers as Reykjanes volcanic belt is not the same as Reykjanes volcanic system which is dealt with presently in the Reykjanes article while the belt is dealt with as main suggests in the Geology of Reykjanes Peninsula article. I will try to sort out ChaseKiwi (talk) 14:07, 29 December 2023 (UTC)
