Whoa a major deletion on a page that has been around for a long time, no reason given other than 'unweildy lists.' The content is helpful, before deleting let's have a discussion. There is good discussion on the IT Asset Management page which supports the Software Asset Management entry and the content that has been there for a long time. Thanks. The only thing that was deleted were the redundant line breaks. Everything else had been hidden. The reason was given in the comment you deleted. The lists need to be incorporated into paragraphs. See WP:EMBED for more info. --Kmsiever 21:59, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Concerning the issue of Possible Copyright Infringement, it is doubtful for several reasons that Jerry Liao is the original author of the alleged infringed text found at http://www.mb.com.ph/issues/2007/08/25/TECH20070825100924.html. First, the date associated with Liao's entry is 25-August 2007 while the original version of this Wikipedia entry is 13-March 2007. Next, the paragraph in question in Liao's article exhibits a dramatically different writing style than the rest of his writing. It is unlikely that one writer altered his writing style to such an extreme for a single paragraph. Finally, there are several other on-line sources that display remarkably similar examples of the text in question, suggesting a common source that numerous writers have copied.

I could find no publication dates associated with the following references: http://search.techrepublic.com.com/search/asset+management+and+software+license.html

Software Asset Management (SAM) puts the people, processes, and technology in place for the effective management and control of software assets within an organization.

SAM, at a very basic level, involves integrating people, processes and technology in such a way as to allow software licenses and usage to be systematically tracked, evaluated and managed

Software Asset Management is the practice of integrating people, processes and technology to allow software to be systematically tracked, evaluated and managed incorporating correct usage and licensing.

I have added a new SAM entry in the temporary file that properly references each point and does not use the text in dispute for copyright infringement.DMD2007 (talk) 12:04, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Software as Balance Sheet Asset?

[edit]

Is there anyone (organization?) working on accepting software/systems as a balance sheet asset?

FASB 86 decrees:

(1) up to proof of concept, spending is expensed.
(2) building is capitalized & then depreciated over 3 to 5 years.
(3) extending/maintaining a system is expensed.

Such treatment totally ignores the reality that systems often are in service over multiple decades. DEddy (talk) 03:17, 20 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
