Winners?
What do the winners get? nothing that u need to know about so ha!
At least in Sabra's case, US$1,000,000...and yet I was rooting for a back-to-back win for Lacey Schwimmer, just to make the people of her hometown(Redlands, CA) happy...sigh...there's always Season 4, coming soon...Michaela92399 02:32, 17 August 2007 (UTC)

This article doesn't sound "encyclopedic," and requires a re-write, IMO.
In addition, the 'Minor Controversy' section should probably be eliminated, as contestants using bad language in reference to the judges is not at all unusual (or controversial) on reality shows. Also, the comment claiming that people vomiting is 'bad manners' seems strange. It's clearly not bad manners so much as contestant(s) being too nervous. -- moondigger 19:05, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- Moondigger, what about it doesn't sound "encyclopedic"? Also, I assume that you are responsible for the tag.--Desmond Hobson 08:38, 11 June 2006 (UTC)

Couples
I decided to change the list of contestants to couples. Someone please check if they're right. Thefreakshow 14:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's more appropriate to keep the names separate, because the couples will change from week to week as people get eliminated, and (if I know reality shows) there is a good chance all of the couples will be reassigned at some point anyway. Plus, they are competing as individuals, and you have to list them individually to include each person's boot date. -Big Smooth 18:36, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Split
I think the suggestion of a split is a good idea. --JamesB3 13:45, 30 June 2006 (UTC)
- A split is definitely needed for readability, but maybe we should just split each season into its own article instead of making a separate list of performances. -Big Smooth 22:05, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
- I split for a season one and season two, although I'm going to keep the eliminated contestant information on the main page as well as on the individual season page. I don't have the information on each performance for the first season, but I will work on that. --JamesB3 09:19, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Participants
Interesting how some particpants' pages are fine, some have "notability" tags, and Musa Cooper's has been closed down and protected from re-opening, with the editorial comment of "crap." Lovely. Apparently an admin didn't like Mr. Cooper, but *only* Mr. Cooper. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.163.95.168 (talk • contribs) 00:58, July 22, 2006.
- I've done some cleanup on the articles to confirm their notability, though I'm not sure what's up with the Musa Cooper article. I contacted that admin to request that it be undeleted. In the meantime, when new articles for the various contestants are created, the best way to solidify them is to ensure that they have as many references as possible to outside locations (news sites, magazines, etc.) that refer to the individual, especially if they have a fansite. All contestants should also be added to Category:So You Think You Can Dance contestants. --Elonka 18:36, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Deletion discussion
The article for Season 2 contestant Ivan Koumaev has been nominated for deletion, and includes some sentiment that all articles about "So You Think You Can Dance" contestants should be deleted. This may be related to a recent essay about "So You Think You Can Dance" articles in the "Wikipedia Signpost" newsletter. Interested editors are invited to participate in the discussion. --Elonka 22:57, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
International section
I've edited this, as it was written in such a way to suggest that the UK TV show Strictly Dance Fever was influenced by SYTYCD. Strictly Dance Fever first aired months before the first airing in the US of SYTYCD: it seems likely that SDF influenced SYTYCD, not the other way round. I haven't added this though, as I have no proof. BTW - proof seems lacking in this article - not too many citations! 82.32.238.139 20:14, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Spam or nott?
Recently-added external link So you think you can dance Online (upload your own dance profiles)
looks kinda spammy. Was added by a one-time contributor and placed right at the top of the external links, usually tipoffs to spam. Comments? --CliffC 21:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Judges
It says in the article, "There are at least three judges on each show, two of which are always producer Nigel Lythgoe and choreographer Mary Murphy." Is this accurate? I know Nigel has been a judge on every show, I do not think Mary was a judge on every episode during season 2. Z1720 21:27, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- In the current season, Mary Murphy has been added as a second permanent judge, so the section is accurate in regards to current format. Her addition is mentioned in the section about Season 3 ("Joining Lythgoe permanently at the judging table is Mary Murphy; her promotion was reported by TV Guide on 8 March 2007."), and the Season 3 article. MissMJ 22:08, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Z1720 14:26, 17 June 2007 (UTC)
Ratings table
I just wanted to suggest a ratings table like the one in LOST. SYTYCD has become very popular, and a "reception" section is needed. (Wikirocks2 10:39, 15 November 2007 (UTC))
Question
Do we really need EVERY style of dance they've done on the show listed? --WoohookittyWoohoo! 12:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
- Not really. People can just look at the individual season articles; the dance styles are listed in the tables. MissMJ 16:31, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Notability of contestants
The notability of contestants is wildly liable across pages - season one they seem to have their own pages, 2 and 3 it's a list. Having separate pages for each contestant seems absurd, and probably out of keeping with notability and biography guidelines. A list of all contestants with {{main}}s for anyone famous for anything besides SYTYCD (i.e. Nick from season 1) seems a good idea. A separate article for each contestant is excessive, particularly if they're only famous for being a SYTYCD contestant. WLU (talk) 15:20, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
First televised popping competition?
On the season 4 finale of So You Think You Can Dance, the two guys that were going to Las Vegas earlier in the season but had to drop out for various reasons "competed" against each other in a popping competition to the song "Stronger" by Kanye West. The one dancer on the right side of the screen said that the event was "the first televised popping competition." Can I get someone to confirm this? Pmcginty (talk) 00:53, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Runners Up
It was not formally announced that Twitch was runner up... they never gave the vote breakdowns. Reality shows commonly reposition people in lineups for drama, unless they explicitly say who was 1st/2nd/etc. by number of votes. This is true for all except the first season of SYTYCD. I know there are lots of people saying Travis was 2nd, Danny was 2nd, they even have other wiki articles that support this, but is there any official proof? Porfirio Landeros (talk) 15:54, 9 August 2008 (UTC)
- Well all of the news outlets have said runner up as well. This is an example. And actually, now that I look, the official show website says so as well. Yes these shows often play up the drama aspect but Dance is usually pretty straight on such things compared to other shows. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:21, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- By the time you see the link they might've changed the verbage on the official page. Right now it reads "Joshua is America's Favorite Dancer. Twitch is First Runner-up. Katee is Top Girl Dancer. Nearly 60 Million votes were cast". And it's not official but dialidol.com had the order just as they said on tv. True for season 3 as well. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:22, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Contestant Stats
Is this section really necessary? I think it pretty much defines trivial. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 07:39, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
I don't believe it's necessary, not to mention that none of these "stats" are supported by any evidence. I'm sure most of the people that posted them watched the show, but is that enough proof, and how else can they be verified? --porfitron 17:01, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- That's a very good point. And also, I'm not sure what meaning that any of them have. For example, the thing about most dances by a partnership. Well before this season, they had never really done multiple dances before the final 10 before. It just doesn't demonstrate anything. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 04:35, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- I just removed the section again. If anyone has a good reason to have the stats, let me know :) Just so trivial. And the problem with doing it on shows like this is that what they show and how things operate constantly change. --User:Woohookitty Diamming fool! 12:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

High Definition
Just to let everyone know I am making a minor change to the picture format. SYTYCD is not broadcast in HD, its in 16:9 SD (unfortunately) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.237.136.251 (talk) 22:04, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know where you are, but in the SFBA, KTVU broadcasts SYTYCD perfectly well in HD. Unless I've gone insane and my eyes have been making up the HD channel and crystal clear detail for the past month. MissMJ (talk) 23:51, 27 June 2009 (UTC)
It is not presented in HD, Fox took the cheap way out to trick people... this article is a little old but it explains it. I can definitely tell its not in HD, you cannot see the detail in faces like you can in HD shows. http://www.engadgethd.com/2006/07/13/fox-widescreen-is-not-hd/ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.237.136.251 (talk) 20:50, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
Season 1 & 2 differences
There is a link for the differences between the two seasons, but it leads nowhere. There's also no note of it on the season 2 page. Can someone please fix this, it would be interesting to read. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.81.134 (talk) 19:41, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Is Melanie LaPatin considered a "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer? If so, perhaps someone could add that information to her article and the So You Think You Can Dance template? ---kilbad (talk) 02:16, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
New Style and New Choreographer
This week SYTYCD(season 5) had new dance style, Classical Pas de deux, and new choreographer for it, Thordal Christensen. Shouldn't it be mention?Lubby ai (talk) 07:24, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
"Places" section
Do we really need that pseudo-elimination table under the "Places" section? It seems too detailed to include ALL the top 20 finalists in the general article about the series, especially when there's already a table listing the top 4 finishers for each season. If people want more detail on contestants' placements for every individual season, they can just visit the separate season articles, the links to which are prominently provided. Thoughts? MissMJ (talk) 23:22, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
- Never mind, the whole thing's been removed. MissMJ (talk) 19:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Do losers get paid?
Do the "losers" get paid anything??? Stars4change (talk) 04:53, 10 November 2009 (UTC)
- Or is this another case of a corporation using people to make the corporations millions, & forget these people have no way to make money to pay for living expenses? Stars4change (talk) 05:53, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- I think they get paid from the fact that they get exposure on national television. It's a competition, not a job. These type of comments are not appropriate here though. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 00:00, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Article Move issues
The article has recently been moved from "So You Think You Can Dance (U.S. TV series)" to "So You Think You Can Dance (U.S.)" then was reverted and then moved again (all by parties that are not me). I've temporarily reverted it again. As the person whose been overhauling the SYTYCD articles in general the last year, I completely agree with the change of title, in principle; it makes more sense and is much more consistent with the naming scheme used for the articles for the other international versions as well as the season articles for this (the U.S.) show. I've actually been meaning to do it myself.
Unfortunately, the person who keeps making the changes is being lazy about cleaning up the redirect problems that recur as a result and since dozens of pages use the old location this is causing tons of permalinks to a version of the page that is two months old. Since I've significantly updated, reworked, and expanded upon the article in the meantime, this is a problem, as is the possibility that we're going to end up with people unintentionally reverting massive amounts of other editors' work when they make even small edits, because they are working from an outdated template that will replace the current page. I assume the first person to revert the move did so for the same reasons. I will move the page myself properly as soon as I have an opportunity. Snow (talk) 03:58, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Ok, finally got around to renaming the page properly. As it turns out, there were less double redirects than I'd expected, so everything should point towards the proper version of the page now. If anyone notices any continuing issues, drop me a line on my talk page. Snow (talk) 06:47, 4 March 2012 (UTC)
Images
Hey folks, three of the images on the page have been put up for deletion on the grounds of being non-free and having insufficient justification for use and can be found on the April 12 FfD here. Sadly, while I feel they add considerable illustrative value and go a long way to breaking up the text and improving the look of the article, the images of the Judge's Panel and of the performance will probably be lost to the very stringently applied policy for non-free images. I think they pass muster for that justification, but I know how these debates typically go and wikipedians like to err on the side of caution when it comes to this sort of content. However, one image I think absolutely needs this bar and needs to stay is the third, the image of Cat Deeley. As I've stated on the deletion discussion, an image of a prominent figure attached to the show has been rather consistently applied in many articles concerning shows and other entertainment projects and is generally felt to add value, especially when it demonstrates them actively engaged in their role on said program. If you have an opinion either way, please head over to the FfD debate and weigh in. Snow (talk) 09:05, 14 April 2012 (UTC)
