gender[edit]

…is a masculine given name…

If a woman bears it, is it still masculine? —Tamfang (talk) 20:51, 20 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My mother and I are both named Sherwood and are both female. Many names are used for both males and females - Terry, Kelly, Christian, Morgan, Chris, Hilary, Alison, Ashley... all were common male names that are now used mainly for females. Stop assuming a person's sex by their name. Beachmutt (talk) 21:00, 20 May 2019 (UTC) Sherwood Freeman Anders[reply]

Just because there are exceptions doesn't mean it isn't overwhelmingly a masculine name.[1][2] That isn't true for the other examples you gave. Clarityfiend (talk) 18:57, 21 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
