Is it OK to quote a paragraph in a reference footnote?[edit]
See this revert. I understand why the quoted paragraph would be undue in the main text, but I don't understand why it's undue in a footnote. In particular, when I first saw that reference footnote and visited the page, I didn't straight away see anything on that page that was directly relevant to the statement being cited, but then I found it quite far down the page. And I thought "I just spent a lot of time looking through that page to find which part is relevant; maybe I can save time for other readers by quoting the relevant part alongside the reference". That's what I thought Template:Cite web#Using quote is for (although I know we're not using Template: Cite web here for some reason). I can't seem to find anything in the Manual of Style that directly addresses the issue of what (not) to put in Template:Cite web#Using quote; perhaps this needs to be written? I just thought quoting the paragraph relevant to a citation, to save the reader from locating it in a longer work, would be OK as part of a citation even if said paragraph would be inappropriate in the running text of the article. 2A02:C7D:8EAB:9100:3472:3F3:4135:9EA5 (talk) 10:26, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
