Hello Manu

In the article about Pillais it is given that in kerala, indegenously, the title 'Pillai' is given ONLY for nair cheiftains or commanders who were awarded the right of Thirumukhom. Then why in this article this sentence is put thus 'Pillais with the style of Thirumukhom'???? Given that Samanthans are nair lords why should 'with Thriumukhom' be specified. It looks odd. Or did the editor meant it to distinguish with Pillais of other castes including those with Tamil origin?? Even so it won't be necessary since it has been specified in this article Samanthan are Nair Lords. It naturally implies that whichever Pillais mentioned in this article is nair Pillais and no other caste with similar name. RAKS

Ive removed that...anyways i am a little doubtful abt pillais....i mean pillais were different from nairs....their women, for instance, didnt add amma...they added pilla to their name...Manu

Manu Many of the Nobles of central and South Travancore were, indeed Pillais. The more famous of them were of course ettuveetil pillais. If you go through works of that period you would find that there were Pillais, unnithans, kurups, Thampis in one extended family itself. Adding Pillai as a surname for ladies is a more recent phenomenon. before mid 20th century they added the Amma title to their name. i am speaking on the strength of info from my own tharavad. RAKS

Well talking abt the pillai thing, my dad is a pillai...his mom is padmavathi amma....but her mom n grandma n all are not ammas....its kalyani pilla...parvathy pilla etc....legally my grandmas name is padmavathiamma pilla...- Manu

Wrong info

[edit]

All this info is wrong. i am re writing the article after verifying the facts...Manu

PLEASE

[edit]

Kindly stop adding nair names with the samanthans...samanthans are only the mentiones people and adding unnithans, kaimals etc is wrong as these are all technically included in the illathu nair category...this is fact and its taken from bookslike travancore state manual and malabar manual...dont try to list nair names in the samanthans. the only samanthans are Adiyodis Pandalas Eradis Vallodis Nedungadis Thampans Unnithiris Manu
