If anyone has book sources for this rare breed, please add the book citation and breed information to the article. SirIsaacBrock 02:03, 5 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Better sources

[edit]

I added a source for the claim that the breed is nearly extinct, but it's not from a reliable place. Better sources are needed. Jess_Riedel (talk) 16:53, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have added more sources for the breed, there are more sources for it being near extinct than entirely extinct. But I do not know how to change the Extinct Status in the block. SpookMew (talk) 14:52, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The breed is not Extinct

[edit]

Hello, I have added a lot of sources that disprove the breed being extinct. I have found videos and photos from the two current breeders of these dogs and I do not believe there is any evidence to prove that this breed is extinct at this time. I believe the status should be changed to 'Near Extinct' or 'Critically Endangered'.

The only reference I see you have for the breed being extinct is this: https://www.perfectdogbreeds.com/sakhalin-husky/ which I do not believe is at all reputable.

I recommend watching this video I found: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uCBV8dGTlCg which shows footage of living Sakhalin Huskies. Thank you, SpookMew (talk) 15:09, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

First off, excellent work finding good quality sources. I've had this page on my radar for awhile but I just haven't had time to buckle down as of late. I did want to let you know that I made some major changes, in part because I had a number of articles and books I'd been sequestering for this page.
⦁ I reorganized the page to match the layouts of other dog breeds. Namely I organized the headings as below.
1. Description (Appearance, Temperament, Health)
2. History (early history, Soviet era, Post-Soviet Union Dissolution
3. Use, Popular Culture
⦁ I removed two images or removed/rewrote several paragraphs due to copyright infringement. The images were clearly copyrighted, unfortunately. As for the translations, this is a touchy one, and just to explain: a translation is a derivative work, so in addition to being subject to the copyright restrictions of the original, the translation has a copyright of its own. To avoid copyright infringement, Wikipedia articles must display some originality of their own. It cannot be a rote translation on the earlier, underlying work. The latter work must contain sufficient new expression, over and above that embodied in the earlier work for the latter work to satisfy copyright law's requirement of originality.
⦁ Either you already got the extinct tag or I'm not seeing it, is it still there?
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions/concerns, etc! Kindly Annwfwn (talk) Annwfwn (talk) 18:53, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for reorganizing the page! I'm good at finding sources but I'm not very good at organising and rewriting everything so thank you! I was adding stuff as if it was notes so I'm very thankful that you cleaned it up.
with the Extinct thing I meant the 'Central Description' thats loacted on this page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sakhalin_Husky&action=info
I'm not sure how to change a central description. I have been wanting to sort this page out for a while as I have been researching this breed and was annoyed that it was listed as extinct on wiki.
I am planning to send a letter to one of the breeders of these dogs so hopefully I will be able to get some more information and possibly some pictures. (I noticed they don't seem to post online about their progress very often so I thought it would be easier to contact them by post) There is an organisation called the "Traditional Sled Dog Breeding Club" (ru: Клуб традиционного ездового собаководства), the chairman is Nikolai Chalkin, so I was going to send them a letter. I will let you know if I recieve a reply!
Thank you! SpookMew (talk) 21:23, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ohhh that page is a reflection of the wikidata page here. I went ahead and corrected it. Annwfwn (talk) Annwfwn (talk) 23:32, 21 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! It was really confusing me! SpookMew (talk) 00:24, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
are these articles of any use?
Ages ago I had an article that was about the dogs role in the lives of the people of Sakhalin that went into great detail, I have now lost this article and it is haunting my thoughts. I will try to find it again tomorrow.
are these articles of any use? SpookMew (talk) 02:44, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't send the articles. Is it possible to add references without citing them anywhere? SpookMew (talk) 02:45, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Central Description

[edit]

How do I change the central description? It is currently set to 'Central description: extinct dog breed' there is no evidence to say the breed i is exti, I have found evidence to state otherwise though. I believe this should be changed but I am on mobile and I don't know how to change it lol.nct SpookMew (talk) 01:07, 20 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I'm trying to leave this here because there's some interesting information. It won't let me send links if I write anything else in the post SpookMew (talk) 20:34, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability and GAN

[edit]

Annwfwn To pass GAN you'll need to include page numbers for all book sources. This can be done either in the citation or with the {{rp}} template. (t · c) buidhe 19:17, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good to know, I'm going to cross post to the Teahouse but I imagine there is a policy with kindle editions where the page number is determined by the font type/size. Any ideas? Annwfwn (talk) 19:24, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Annwfwn, there's nothing wrong with using Kindle. A trick that usually enables you to find the page # is to search a snippet of text on Google Books to find the page number. Otherwise, you can simply write search "snippet" in the |location= field, which should also enable anyone with a digital copy to verify the information, or if all the information is in a short chapter or section use the chapter field. However, the latter trick doesn't work with rp. (t · c) buidhe 20:55, 16 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
