This article is a supplementary article, of tables previously hard-coded into the main item Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, which at 33Kb, was judged to be probably too long.

Readers can jump direct from the abridged table location to the equivalent table on this page, then back again to the same point in the main article. Lynbarn 11:53, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Since a clean-up tag has been applied to this article, I have began making it so it can stand more on its own, although I don't want to duplicate too much of the content. The tables (which are directly accessed via links from the main arcticle) are now sandwiched between a proper introduction, and the "perchance..." transcluded page linking historical L&B articles to presen day activities. Any suggestions on how I might further improve this will be warmly welcomed. regards, Lynbarn 15:25, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest another cleanup step would be to convert the HTML tables into wikitables. This would give them a more standard appearance and maintain consistency with other Wikipedia article to make editing easier. Gwernol 20:34, 22 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mixing fact and fiction

[edit]

A number of edits have been made recently to pages such as Lynton and Barnstaple Railway and Rolling stock of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway adding details of locomotives that do not and did not ever exist. These are reported in an alternative history at County Gate, a website featuring a model railway layout of the same name, which depicts a planned but NEVER BUILT extension of the L&B from Lynton to Minehead.

The model features alongside YEO, EXE, TAW, LYN and LEW, the real L&B locos, a number of locos which, although designed authentically, only exist in model form, and were never built or even designed in real life. The 2-6-0 0-6-2T locos "River Avon" & "River Brue" and the North British 4-6-4s "Axe" & "Lyd" exist only in the imagination of the modeller, (although the modern L&B does have a locomotive named AXE - A Joffre class 0-4-0 built in 1915 by Kerr Stuart for use by the French Army in World War 1, and the Ffestiniog Railway have a recently-built replica Manning Wardle named "LYD")

No diesel ever ran on the original L&B, "River Avill" was never therefore built by Armstrong Whitworth for use on the railway, and neither were any of the railcars depicted on the model or on the website.

I hope the above clears up the situation - Please do not add any details of locos, rolling stock, locations or events that may not be verifiable from sources other than the County Gate website without first discussing on this talk page. Thank You. Lynbarn (talk) 19:18, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Adding new locomotives

[edit]

A number of edits have been made recently to pages such as Lynton and Barnstaple Railway and Rolling stock of the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway adding details of locomotives that are yet to be built. Although a start has been made on two locos - LYN and YEO, insufficient progress has been made on either to give any reasonable estimate as to when either will be delivered. Although the LYN project claims a year of 2012, this is as yet far from certain, and there are no plans to resurrect the YEO project in the immediate future are being contemplated. Any such entry would therefore be inapropriate, as per WP:CRYSTAL Please therefore do not add these entries again without first discussing on this talk page. It is also impolite at best to remove in-line editors' notes inserted into the body of the article to explain why such changes should not be applied. Please do not do this either. Thank You. Regards Lynbarn (talk) 19:01, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neither are details of the miniature locomotive required here - this short miniature line is NOT part of the L&B per se, and neither is the loco owned by the L&B. Thank You. Regards, Lynbarn (talk) 16:58, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
