Controversy

The first bullet point under "Controversy" does not make sense unless one already *understands* what the alleged discrepancy is...I have never heard of this point, and don't have time to chase the answer around...what is being talked about? What letterbox difference? I am not challenging...I just don't understand. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.102.186.11 (talk) 04:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, at the time nudity per se was not considered pornography. In today's society, any nudity of someone under 18 is automatically considered to be child pornography. Compare to the 90s version of Lolita, where the actress did not appear nude at all (body double for maybe 10 seconds of footage), but still caused a major stir. Compare also to Taxi Driver from the 60s, with a body double for a split-second oblique shot of the main character's breasts, but the potential nudity involved was not the primary controversy.
The crop is to avoid showing her pubic area and derriere because today it could potentially cause legal problems. Brooke Shields has said she never had an issue with the nudity involved or the subject matter, so I don't see what all the hub-bub was about.98.225.230.65 (talk) 04:07, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

The current home video release is reformatted for censorship.

Hi.

It's my knowledge that the current video release (2003 DVD) was cropped from the original 1.33:1 to 1.85:1. Isn't it worth a section?190.64.176.217 (talk) 22:13, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

This is already covered in the article (with citation needed). Msw1002 (talk) 23:54, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Hattie's husband

Who is the actor that portrays him? I don't see the character listed in cast. Olivia comet (talk) 07:50, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

Would a modern Blu-Ray release of the film be legal, under current federal Child Pornography regulations? Is the DVD release allowed under 1978 regulation? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ISAWaUFO (talkcontribs) 21:23, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

I’ve just updated the link to Roger Ebert’s review of this film, as I have done with a few others. This is necessary since the website has changed its structure, or all reviews have been moved to a different website.

But can’t this be done automatically, for all films mentioning his review?--Geke (talk) 10:55, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
