The original series states that the Preservers evolved from winged insectoids. However, evolution theory only applies to things that reproduce. The Preservers living at the time of the original series are obviously unable to reproduce since they have no genitals. A possible solution is that their species originally where like insects living in hives. In such species only a small minority is able to reproduce while the large majority of the members are sterile. If so the last Preservers which could reproduce may have died shortly after their arrival to the World of Two Moons. Anyone who has any other idea?
