Drugs of course. The plateau itself is a reference to getting high. The idea of cleaning the plateau, no dirt to be seen, but the work, it was fun, is a reference to the pointless, but entertaining and some times a bit OCD things one does while high. Some belong to strangers, and some to folks you know is a reference to the fact that everyone does drugs, from Talk Show Hosts to Holy Ghosts.
