Split games
[edit]How about splitting some of the games into their owna rticles????Toa Mario 17:52, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
I believe the 2006 releases and onwards should be on a separate page to the Petz 1-5 as they are very different videogames. Also, Horsez is a Pippa Funnell game and definitely does not fit with Petz 1-5. It has a narrative and is not open-ended like Petz. I have not played Hamsterz Life so I cannot comment on its placement, but I agree that this article needs splitting. Solloby 02:40, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
I've removed the Horsez section and create a Horsez page. Solloby 01:39, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
I created a stub on dolphinz- now it redirects to here. Why? AYoungMan68 (talk) 02:50, 8 March 2009 (UTC)
Dogz and Catz
[edit]I've moved Hamsterz Life to its own page as I doubt it would fit with Dogz and Catz, but if it will then it can be moved there once a page is created.
Dogz and Catz GBC, Dogz and Catz GBA, Dogz and Catz DS, Dogz and Catz 2006 PC all need moving. Suggested article title is Dogz and Catz. This article should only be for Petz 1-5. Solloby 06:06, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
- Why? Ubisoft is setting both the latest Dogz and Catz games as part of the Petz name, having bought the license, and indeed both games's official websites are at www.petz.com so they are a direct followup. Elfguy 15:17, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean? If they were part of the original Petz series, they would be Petz 6. And the Petz 1-5 series no longer has an official website, it was taken down and redirected to Ubisoft's website where the new Catz and Dogz are being advertised at http://petz.uk.ubi.com/. The new site does not have any support for these games anymore. It does not mention them, even though Ubisoft released Petz 5. Well, if it does, they are hard to find as they don't even appear in the search.
- I guess why I want to split them is, the games are very different and I see them as 2 different series that should have their own pages. It would also help because content wouldn't have to be labelled according to which games it relates to. The Breedz section I added is only for Petz 3-5 (and maybe 2), and a lot of the creature design section only relates to the Petz 1-5. Actually, the entire first section appears to only relate to Petz 1-5 as well.
- Am I rambling? Sorry. I guess I haven't really thought about why I see them as 2 different series, I just assumed it was a given. Naughty me. Probably because I hang around other Petz 1-5 players on forums and websites, and they appear to view them as different series as well, if they mention the new games at all. Solloby 07:03, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
- I totally disagree, Elfguy. The new games are not really a part of the original Petz 1-5 series and are something completely different. They don't share the same sort of coding or even the most fundamental of things, such as appearance, game makeup etc. If it were a direct-follow up, it would at least run along the same lines as the originals, which it very clearly does not.
- I think that all references to the new games should be moved and made into other articles. The only thing they have in common is the name and that's it, but that does not necessarily mean they are at all similar in any other way. *Still Calico 18:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- The original website is actually still up except it's been moved around all over the place. I can't remember where the link is and it's pretty hard to find. I might post it later. I believe, though, that they changed it a bit; I can't remember the last time I went on the original website before they supposedly took it down. Just to warn you though, I believe the web address is almost identical. Ratkinzluver33 (talk) 21:49, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- I think it is time now to consider adding the modern Ubisoft titles in the series to this page again, as there are now many Ubisoft games, including spinoffs that fall under the same series name despite gameplay differences. Not including them on this page makes it difficult for users to find information on entries into the series since 2006 despite this page still being the first page they are likely to find if they want information on the modern Petz games. Jargon
[edit]Could somebody put in a reference to the definition for a "tamsin" at Starswept? It can be found here, but I don't know how to add a list of sources. That should help, though. *Still Calico (talk) 17:47, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Homosexual Petz
[edit]Please stop removing it. Several people have reported or apparently experienced 'gay' petz, myself included. Whether or not you believe it is true makes no difference. If you have some sort of personal problem with homosexuals then please take it somewhere else. --Still Calico (talk) 18:44, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
I'm the developer of PetzA, the add-on for Petz that modifies much of the Petz code. In the mating routine, the game checks whether the two pets have the same sex value, and if they are the same then the mating is aborted. A sex code of 0 is male, everything else is female. It is possible for this check to fail to work correctly, as considers two female pets with sex codes of 1 and 2, say, to be of different sexes. Note that the check always works correctly with male pets, who can have only one value for their sex code, so it is impossible for two "genetically" male pets to mate (It might be possible that one of them is a genetic female who displays male in the family tree, though, since this information is independent and not always correct). --Thenickdude (talk) 05:44, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Whoa, hi Nicholas! Thanks for the info. That should put (somewhat) of an end to the 'Petz A' reasoning that a lot of people use to excuse homosexual petz. So, if I read what you said correctly, does that mean I was correct in my assumption that homosexuality only ever really occurs in just female petz, as I implied in the article note?
I have only ever experienced lesbian petz, and I was definitely wondering about that.
Thanks for clearing up some of the confusion. :) By the way, you're an awesome programmer, hehe. --Still Calico (talk) 18:16, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- Female pets can mate, true, but it is the clear intent of the binary that homosexual relations be excluded, it can only happen due to a bug in the game. A game that intentionally included homosexual pets would be significant, and would definitely warrant a mention on the article page - parents might possibly be upset. As it stands, this probably isn't notable enough to make it to the article. --Thenickdude (talk) 02:41, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yes, of course. Even in the manuel it's made clear that homosexuality shouldn't occur in the game. Henceforth I'm not going to make a big section on it, but leave in a small sidenote about the glitch, hehe. By the way, could you possibly offer any information on things such as ANY possibility of cat/dog hybrids? Carolyn made a breedfile with exploding catz/calicoes in it a while back, but it was a dogz file. But even then I found I could only mate it (through Petz A) to other catz ... I'm still a bit baffled. --Still Calico (talk) 21:01, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I removed it a few minutes ago without checking this page, I just felt that is was irrelevant, and having had literally hundreds of Petz I have never, ever seen this occur - I assume that it is extremely rare. I am guessing that Petz A was blamed because so many people have it, it's likely that it mostly occurs with people with Petz A. I'm not sure if I should undo my edit or not since it is under discussion. I think I will review and edit it. I don't think it belongs in Petz life cycle, I'll put it up before that. Solloby (talk) 02:11, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Oh and in response to your question about cat/dog hybrids, Catz and Dogz cannot breed because they draw from different files. As the article states, "Dogz and Catz cannot breed together as they rely on different base files that determine their movement and behaviour." People can hex hybrids, but they would have to base it off either a cat or dog. The only way I can think of to have cat/dog hybrids would be to hex dogs that looked like cats or vice versa. Then they could breed because the game knows that they are all dogs and treat them as dogs. So you can have Petz that look like cats breeding with dogs, but the cats would all behave as dogs and move as dogs. Does that make sense? Anyway, that's my understanding of it. Solloby (talk) 02:21, 23 June 2008 (UTC)
- Solloby, that's correct. The game has a set of animations for dogs and a set of animations for cats. These define the shape of the animal's body. They both use quite different ball numbers, so you can't just have a "blend" between the two species. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thenickdude (talk • contribs) 01:57, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm quite aware why dogz and catz cannot breed, being a hexer and a player of the game for 5-6 odd years, lol. However, I wasn't referring to cat/dog breeding; I was referring to the 'crazy' calico or something odd that Carolyn Horn hexed a couple years back. It's actually called calico.dog, has the looks of a calico but acts completely crazy, but (using Petz A) it could only be bred with catz. I was just wondering if any of you had any idea about how Carolyn might've done this or offered more info on the files, since I know there are quite a few very experienced hexers lurking somewhere out there. *smile* Here is the source--http://boardwalkerz.com/carolyn/carolyn.htm If you go down to the bottom of the "Mad Scientist" page and download the "insane calico" file, you'll see what I mean! Also, thanks Solloby for putting it back in. Where do you feel it would be better off? I thought it should go under the breeding since lesbian catz actually produce babies (somehow)... LOL! *Still Calico (talk) 19:52, 12 July 2008 (UTC)
Jargon section
[edit]I've removed it as it is unsourced and not notable enough to be relevant for this article. --Thenickdude (talk) 11:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
2006 pets
[edit]I removed the following because it is poorly written despite spelling/grammar edits already, so I thought I'd dump it here incase someone with the games in question feels like rewriting it and readding it to the article.
Wii/PS2 Catz/Dogz
The game starts when the player chooses a satisfactory breed of cat/dog to their taste, which is also unable to breed or be hexed. In the game, your family (consisting of you, Mother Ione and Father Arvin) protect the Magic Hat, a mysterious hat with the patterns of the sky on it's surface. Evil white wolf, Ivlet, who is in Pawville jail, tricks you and your best friend into giving him the Magic Hat, and chaos reigns.Wild animals attack cats/dogs and buildings destroyed. Abilities are gained in your travels and can be used during quests in the game, including the ability to shift rocks, catch fish, bugs and wild animals, ride creatures and stun them. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Solloby (talk • contribs) 04:32, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- Didn't realise it was pasted here, I thought this article was just for the old Petz series. So now that sort of info is on Petz: Dogz 2 and Catz 2. And you know it says it's in need of attention from an expert on this subject... I'm not exactly an expert, but I do know how the whole Petz thing works (like what the games are in different countries and such). But I'm not sure what 'attention' really means. Can someone be more specific? Melon247 (talk) 15:07, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
