Improvement Drive[edit]

COMMENTS ON 2006 ARTICLE WHICH WAS REJECTED

20060830 -- someone is using the URI for this article as the refer(r)er in link list spam. It's safe to assume it's one of the external links and should be removed but I can't tell which it is. Probably the newest but I'm not going to remove it without proof. The server doing the evil is in this block: 62.254.32.* which maps to GB. (Apv)

The link to angelfire has to be killed. I have a good deal of referer spam pointing to this site in my logs.
I'm getting referral spam from the angelfire directly and this wiki-page. I think that's proof. Removing angelfire external ink as spam. However, I don't see any valid reason for keeping the other commercial external links either. I humble vote that the section be removed permanently. Harley 02:42, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought the link Personal Development fitted well with the content of the article on Personal Development. I had noticed that there was only one external link. Although the site by Steve Pavlina is excellent it only gives Steve's personal view and experiences of the subject. The site mentioned above has articles, reviews and different opinions on a range of personal development issues. I believe the whole point of the Wipedia dictionary is to offer free information and resources and I was only trying to add a valuable contribution and do not understand why Tyrenius removed it.

Why, exactly, was Steve Pavlina's *actually useful* link removed in favor of an angelfire page?

Referrer Spam Proof[edit]

From my referrer logs:

Whoever owns/advocates the Angelfire page is trying to use Wikipedia as an end run. I get a run of these about once a week, lots of repeated hits to get it in the "top ten" of my stats.

86.12.230.167, the same person who added all the links to the AngelFire pages, deleted my proof of referrer spam comments here in the talk page earlier today. Look out for a new round of spam links around this neighborhood of articles. I restored them with my previous edit.

Proposed deletion[edit]

Against deletion while the article can do with improvement (I have done a bit) personal development is a seperate concept that is used and users would expect to find in Wikipedia. Hmm. I do not agree that no substantial information is provided here. Personal development training is what I do and I have not found an alternative term for it. I think that users of Wikipedia could expect to find an article on personal development. As to the linkspam, I understand the problem. Against deletion I found with google 5,810,000 results for searching "personal development", compared to only 304,000 results for "counselling psychology", so it is an important term .

I removed chapters Approaches to Personal Development as it was some sort of disambiguation page and Area of work as it was just a strange way of saying that personal development is an all-inclusive subject.Dl.goe 14:30, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Against deletion The successful growth of category:personal development surely indicates the importance of this topic to Wikipedia. There must surely be enough information held in these articles to form a basis for a decent article on the subject. Against deletion Personal Development is a real phenomenon and separate or distinct to varying extents from both the self-help movement and psychotherapy/counselling arenas. It could also be useful as the current category page also seems to be used as DMOZ-style ad page for the multiplicity of commercially-inspired PD "movements" and this page would help clarify what's what if written up well.
