Based on a short Google search, most sources seem to define a parallelogon as a polygon whose translates tile the plane. Thus an octagon with parallel sides would not be a parallelogon. Can anyone verify the factual accuracy of the definition presently on this page? Jim (talk) 21:17, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed - the only sources I can find that give the more general definition (any polygon with opposite pairs of parallel sides) are Wikipedia mirrors. I have rewritten the article with a source that gives the more restricted definition and also proves that a parallelogon must have four or six sides. Visited this page for checking defination of parallelogon. However after reading the said prove, I still don't understand why limiting it to shapes with 4 and 6 sides only? Say, can't a regular octagon be a parallelogon? It is limited to 4 or 6 sided polygons because they must be able to tile the plane in addition to having parallel opposite sides. Jonpatterns (talk) 14:43, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram

In the diagram I don't understand why the 'hexagon' parallelogon example is shown as a hexahedron, the 'suppressed' edges (as noted in the description) seem redundant. Jonpatterns (talk)
