The result of the move request was: Not moved. Nomination appears to be in error. No evidence was given that the district was renamed. Link is about the city. (non-admin closure) Venkat TL (talk) 16:55, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
Osmanabad district → Dharashiv district – The city has been renamed, per source 1 and source 2 Hey man im josh (talk) 14:26, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Is the new name in common use? See the discussion about renaming Faizabad to Ayodhya district or Allahabad to Prayagraj district. I know it was referred to as Dharashiv before the Nizams renamed it but that still doesn't mean it is the common name today. C1MM (talk) 15:07, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Please refer to the Nur Sultan Page which is formally known as Astana where common name is still Astana yet they have done because its official rectified Curious man123 (talk) 16:41, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - Per WP:COMMONNAME, the name is still Osmanabad. Too soon as of now. As a demonstration, "Osmanabad" (with quotes) gets us 83,300 hits while "Dharashiv" (with quotes) 964 hits in Google book searches. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:53, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Support - As per local history the name Dharashiv is the ancient/old name of the city.[1] so WP:COMMONNAME is invalid as city was not renamed to new unknown name, merely restored to old commonly known name.PersianV (talk) 18:57, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- I do not consider the K T Patil College of Nursing's About page to be a reliable source by any measure. This article from JSTOR points out that Osmanabad and Latur districts were both jointly known as Dharashiv. Make of it what you will. Kazamzam (talk) 19:35, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - The reference was just a general justification what local history says. If you need 'reliable' source the here you go - Dale Hoiberg of Encyclopædia Britannica wrote in 2000 that Osmanabad was originally/commonly known as Dharashiv or Dharapur[2]. Hence WP:COMMONNAME argument is invalid. PersianV (talk) 21:18, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

- Oppose OMG that was the city being renamed, not the district — DaxServer (t · m · c) 20:37, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose neither of the sources cited by the proposer as evidence for the change mention whether the district has been renamed. The first one talks about the city being renamed as a measure by politicians to burnish their hindutva credentials. The second source is the wrong URL - but I was able to find the URL he/she meant using a search - the story was about politicians changing Aurangabad city to Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad city to Dharashiv - there is no mention of the district, so the source is irrelevant to the proposal.-- Toddy1 (talk) 21:41, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- You are not neutral yourself. Otherwise you won't be saying Hindutva credential as something of a opposable reason without any concrete evidence of why the subject is linked to Hindutva and why it should be opposed based on it.

- Not done: This article is about the district, the city is at Osmanabad — DaxServer (t · m · c) 14:14, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Change the subject name
[edit]Recently GOI renamed Osmanabad as Dharashiv so I urge to change the subject name. Shreyashmali100 (talk) 09:51, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Shreyashmali100 That is about the city, not the district — DaxServer (t · m · c) 10:26, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Osmanabad district → Dharashiv district – commonname is Dharashiv since ages Anubhavklal (talk) 11:07, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: Per this recent source (23 April 2023) from the Indian Express, the Maharashtra govt has instructed the Osmanabad district authorities not to use ‘Dharashiv’ until name change procedure completed: Maharashtra govt to HC. THe move request is irrelevant at the moment. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:13, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Another one from Zee News Marathi (translated) dated 21 Apr 2023 says the same thing. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 13:15, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support: Official name, plus beautiful and easier to pronounce. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fayninja (talk • contribs) 04:58, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Easier to pronounce isn't a valid argument, it depends on the familiarity and the individual. Also common name trumps official name as can be since in Germany and many such high level articles. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:16, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose: (1) Though some users claim that "Dharashiv district" is the official name, the available evidence only supports that the government is in the process of changing the official name to "Dharashiv district". i.e. until the process is completed the official name is "Osmanabad district". (2) As for evidence of what the common name is, Google News results covering 1 January 2023 to 6 July 2023 are: "Osmanabad district" 97, "Dharashiv district" 61. Though it is worth adding that news sources tend to be early adopters of new names for places (compared with books, academic sources, and general websites), so Google News searches undoubtedly overestimate that amount that "Dharashiv district" is in general use.-- Toddy1 (talk) 12:34, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Osmanabad district → Dharashiv district – earlier move request was primarily rejected as the name was not formally recognised, even though in common use. As per WP:Common article title should be common name and not necessarily official name. Anubhavklal (talk) 14:10, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
