Merge[edit]

If Ninja Gaiden Black isn't separate from the original, then Sigma should also be merged. They are all just differing versions of the same game, so therefore should be in one article, surely.

Platform[edit]

why cant it be on Xbox360? _________

Because Ninja Gaiden 2 will be on Xbox360

Sigma is just an improved version of Black for Xbox, what would be the point of releasing it for 360?

Can a remake of an Xbox game really be considered a PS3 exclusive?

Duh, of course it can, there's LOTS of new material for being a remake. Really, all textures, animations, models and so on is completely new.

A prime example would be the Resident Evil remake for Gamecube back in the day. It was a version of the original, but it was exclusive to the platform. Had Sigma been a mere port like Resident Evil 2, 3, and CODE Veronica for the GC, then you would've had a point.

Actually I just got down with the demo and no the new textures animations and models are not new just upgraded to HD. Im sorry but who is going to pay $60 for this title? 68.226.119.201 04:38, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Couldn't be further from the truth. The game is graphically overhauled. Load up Black to see the difference. This isn't a gaming forum, so you might want to re-consider your choice of words. Wikipedia is meant to be an online encyclopedia.

^^^ I know a lot of people that would disagreed with you

^^^ Including PSM, who I just read explaining all the NEW textures, animations and models. (Rekija 05:15, 9 May 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Merge with Ninja Gaiden (Xbox)?[edit]

Since the article on the original title deals with the Black edition alone, I thought it would nonly be naturally encyclopedic also to deal with Ninja Gaiden Sigma in that article as well. Agree? --SoloReX 17:57, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The title of the article could be looked into, as one might assume that if it reads Xbox, it would be devoted to the Xbox games only! Otherwise, I do agree; Create a section for "updates and remakes" and ram Black, Sigma and maybe the Hurricane Packs too under it. Or something. --Kalkku

I don't think that Sigma should necessarily be merged into the Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) article just because Black edition is. After all, Black edition is a relatively minor update to the game, released on the same platform as the original, and only 16 months or so after the original. Not that I would necessarily oppose it being merged but the PS3 version does have graphical updates, new boss fights and water combat, new stages, FMVs replaced with playable in-game scenes, and the entire Rachel scenario.203.158.52.211 02:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is a different game for a different system. A perfect example would be Fight Night Round 3 for Playstation 3 which is has differences then the Fight Night Round 3 Playstation 2 version.

No, it should not. it is a totally different game.

Hell no, stop trying to be a bunch of babies. It's PS3 game, not an xbox game.

The title is different and many changes have been made to the game. Metal Gear Solid (PlayStation) and Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (Gamecube) were the same game but the latter one was a remake and so it was a totally different game with many more features that the original version. I don't understand why this is in discussion. --74.113.149.254 17:05, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I can't really see justification for a merge due to possible bloat caused in one article. Team Ninja developers have mentioned in interviews that this was intended to be a separate experience for those who had yet to play the game on its "home" console. There's enough information out there and probably more in the pipes that could be used to make this article stand on its own (as of right now, it just reads like an overly glorified advertisement but I imagine that will change as well). A link in the Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black external links (or see also) section would be better off. --75.2.32.250 03:37, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Enough fan-boys (!), the platform is irrelevant. It is essentially the same game that was released on the XBox many years ago - I think it is important that PS3 owners know that this is the case when they are considering purchasing it (ie. it is still an excellent game, but by no means anywhere close to next-gen).

Being a "fan-boy" has nothing to do with at least one of the previous comments. Team Ninja developers HAVE STATED that it was remade/re-envisioned yet again for the purpose of bringing the game to a set of people who might not have played it on the competition's console. Black was essentially the same game, yet there's enough there that makes it stand apart from the first release. There's enough in this one that makes it stand apart from the prior two. Pretty simple outlook, not skewed in any direction in regard to being a fan or otherwise. --69.208.131.161 07:31, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Claiming that Black was essentially the same game would be claiming that Sigma is essentially the same game too. Is there any drastic, game-altering change in Sigma which renders it a different game to play from NG/NGB? Is there a major change in the presentation of the game? No.
Comparing screenshots, videos and actual game, it is a fact that Sigma is mostly a "1080p port of a 480p" game in layman's speak (it is more accurate to say Sigma is taking advantage of this generation's PS3's greater graphical capabilities over the last generation's XBox's), but this does nothing to change the gameplay. The additions are in the same manner as per Black (one new weapon, some new enemies, mission mode, some additional abilities). In a manner, how a player plays Sigma is almost identical to how a player plays Black. The new playable character actually did nothing substantial to alter the storyline or require heavy change in playing style (she is basically a sluggish Ryu wielding a warhammer). Even now on forums around the world, many who have played NG/NGB have voiced out the deja vu they are experiencing on playing Sigma (though opinion of whether Sigma is 'good' is split).
If this article is merged into the XBox articles, it can help new players and those who have yet to play the game more clearly understand the differences between the 3 products.12.47.224.8 01:32, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hard to say whether you're being argumentative just for the sake of it or not, but the fact that you can fight entirely new bosses, engage in combat while on water (in both the original and Black you could merely run across it briefly) makes it different enough to distance it from the XBox counterparts. Start signing your posts as well. --69.208.134.21 10:14, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How many new bosses? Two, one of which is just a modified version of an old boss. Engage in combat in water - for a significant portion crucial portion of the game? No. The game still plays the same as per the original XBox games. Did they take up an overwhelming portion of the game play/time? So how radically different is the gameplay of Sigma from NG/NGB due to this changes? NGB allows the player to charge Ultimate Techniques when no essences are around which also adds to the karma score, which is change to the combat system, does that mean it is that much different from Ninja Gaiden, and hence deserving its own section (failing to mention smoke bombs, mission modes, new foes, weapons etc)? If you have gone through the discussion's history, the post you are responding to was signed, but you have cut into the middle of it (I have moved your reply to below that as appropriate to maintain the continuity of discussion).69.220.142.8 03:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Considering that the bulk of the content of this article is, in fact, comparing differences from the Xbox version I think a merge is appropriate. Although the title should be changed if this is done. -- MisterHand 12:46, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It could also be done such that everything falls under the "Ninja Gaiden series" category but split into separate pages for each console. However that would be messy, as the old series has several consoles as well. It could also be done by separating the whole category into "Ninja Gaiden Pre-2000" (for all the older consoles) and "Ninja Gaiden Post-2000" (for the newer consoles).12.47.224.8 01:32, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's best left as is, otherwise the merge for this in regards to it being a port (hastily calling that a "fact" isn't something I'd do without a credited source to confirm that) will have to be taken into consideration for other articles of a similar nature that need to be needlessly crammed into the article the game originated from. --69.208.134.21 10:11, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How can you be sure it is an original work and not a port? Please cite the source stating it is totally rebuilt with a new engine. Sigma is a port of the original works, a port being understood to be the game's engine being reused for another gaming console system with the underlying hardware I/O interface layer being adapted/modified to the PS3's system.69.220.142.8 03:11, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think the contention here is that the Ninja Gaiden series is no longer a Microsoft-only franchise. Labeling the main article (Ninja Gaiden X-Box) is incorrect. There are now Ninja Gaiden PS3 and DS games, and cramming them into an X-Box franchise page is a lesson in lunacy. If it were simply "Ninja Gaiden" with console release info for each respective game, I would have no problem with a merge. Onehotalchemist 15:55, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sigma is a next-generation revision of the original Xbox game so one could merge the section and re-write the Sigma part to note every single change. The game is not a port by any means; a port simply means a direct code translation alongside assets to a platform. An example would be Resident Evil 2 on the Gamecube. Sigma is a graphically overhauled revision of the original Xbox games. It's a revision in the sense that the engine itself runs a bit smoother, and changes/addition to enemy lineup, encounters, specs etc. are present. The core gameplay engine is the same, but that can be said of Dead Or Alive 2 and DOA2U, or Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag Tournament. They were distinctly different games with clear differences

UK Release Date?[edit]

Does anyone have a release date for when NGS will be released in Europe? From reading around on the internet, 29th June 2007 seems to come up alot. I'm not really sure if this is just speculation, or if that's the actual confirmed date. It certainly would fit in to the right time frame. Could someone add that in to the released section? Cheers :-) Alpha Five 10:04, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone confirm 26 June as the EU release date? So far I have yet to read any Europeans posting their thoughts on playing an EU version (perhaps they are still playing?). The British confirmed through their stores they are only receiving their units in July. 12.47.224.8 05:33, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sales[edit]

This game has sold 450,000 copies worldwide. sources: [1] [2] [3]

As stated in the history log, not quite. 販売 = (n,vs)sales; selling; marketing. So 450,000 copies of the game have been put on sale at that period of time (it would probably be clearer to say in English 450,000 copies have been shipped to retailers). Actual numbers sold to consumers have not been revealed.206.19.210.7 01:37, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Noted. Though to be precise, those are the number of units Tecmo sold to retailers so there is some truth to it. It should be noted that they're not sell-through numbers (the number that retailers sold to the final customer)

Assessment[edit]

The lead needs expanded. There's not a Plot section. There's not a Release section. As for "Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus", is there any substantial differences that it would require an article for itself, or is it pretty much the same game? If it's pretty much the same game, then any information regarding it should be done on this page. --JDC808 23:18, 10 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
