The image is broken. Anyone know how to fix it?MichaelBillington 09:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • You need to upload a picture with correct copyright status at Image:Nathan Buckey.jpg. Note that pics from AFL.com.au or the Collingwood website cannot be used as they are copyrighted. Harro5

That makes it really difficult for us then... MichaelBillington 07:58, 28 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The part: "Buckley moved from Brisbane to Collingwood after a season with the former, leaving with the belief he more chance of winning a premiership with the Magpies. Ironically, Brisbane would beat Collingwood in two consecutive AFL Grand Finals in 2002 and 2003." needs references - do we know in concrete that that was the reason he left Brisbane? Birthplace correction?

[edit]
He was born in Adelaide, not the NT. Much was made of this fact when the 2003 Brownlow was shared between Bucks, Goodes and Ricciuto - as all were Adelaide-born.
See link: http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:M2O1bPOFqw4J:afl.com.au/default.asp%3Fpg%3Daflfocus%26spg%3Ddisplay%26articleid%3D96866+nathan+buckley+%22born+adelaide%22&hl=en&gl=au&ct=clnk&cd=2 <---dead link
“I was born in Adelaide, but I spent the major part of my developing years in Darwin.”

I have corrected this. There are many inaccuracies/assumptions made in this article including him being a Collingwood supporter. I think he supported either Geelong or Kangaroos (or neither perhaps he was that focused on making VFL/AFL). Thanks for the link anonymous individual! -
BTW I think his father was some sort of bank manager or something that had to travel from state to state for some reason.

Picture

[edit]

I have uploaded an image that I believe complies with Wikipedia's strict licensing and copyright rules. Only problem is I don't know how to use it in this article.

The pic is at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Nathan_buckley.jpg#filelinks

I've tried putting it in but it won't work, perhaps the info box template is wrong or something? Jabso 14:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

His Father is Ray Buckley a Valuer that also coached football. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.10.88.178 (talk) 10:04, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Major contradiction

[edit]

"However he spent the majority of his football developing years (aged around 10-17) in South Australia so is widely regarded as a South Australian. Also under the now defunct State of Origin competition he was eligible for The Allies, a team that was an amalgamation of players from Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania."

The most recent amendment to the State of Origin eligibility rules (1993) decreed that a player is tied to the state where he lived the longest between the ages of 10-17. Now as he is most certainly tied to NT/Allies he can't possibly have 'spent the majority of his football developing years (aged around 10-17) in South Australia so is widely regarded as a South Australian' could he?

Therefore strongly suggest this is edited.

House value...

[edit]

Is the monetary value of Nathan Buckley's house relevant to the article? Is this information provided in articles on all other AFL players? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.239.212.68 (talk) 21:29, August 27, 2007 (UTC)

Birth Place

[edit]

It is strange that it is impossible to find a web link on google for Bucks birthplace. What is the big mystery? ROxBo 01:06, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Playing History

[edit]

It is stated that Nathan Buckley won the Magarey and Jack Oatey Medals while playing for the Port Adelaide Magpies. This is not correct, in 1992 when these medals were won Nathan played for the Port Adelaide Football Club which was established in the 1800s. The Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club came into being in 1997 after the Port Adelaide Football Club transferred into the AFL and became known as the Power so as not to conflict with the Collingwood Magpies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wallybeagle (talkcontribs) 12:45, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, the information is correct. Port Adelaide assume the Power name when playing in the AFL, because of the clash with Collingwood. However, the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies were and have always been known as the Magpies. When Buckley won the 1992 SANFL Best and Fairest Medal (Magarey Medal)and the Best player in the Grand final (Jack Oatey Medal), he won them as a member of the SANFL Port Adelaide Magpies.

Substantial Bias/Original Research

[edit]

This article contains substantial bias as well as huge amounts of original research. I am particularly referring to the Notable Matches section... statements like:

"The 2002 Grand Final will go down as perhaps Nathan Buckley's finest performance in the Collingwood jumper. On a sodden MCG, Buckley - and his Magpies - were superb, pushing the all-conquering Lions to the absolute limit, going down late in the last quarter by a mere nine points."

1) Who says they were superb (in fact, they werent; they lost the grand final - but that is another issue); and
2) There is no reference for this at all. A simple summary of Buckley's statistics (with references) and noting his Norm Smith medal would suffice.

Agree with the above and have no problems should you wish to be bold and remove the entire section. In addition to your concerns, the material is in no way encyclopedic. -- Mattinbgn\talk 06:01, 4 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Think that the above comment is fine as is and if there is a problem feel free to add quotation marks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.167.170.202 (talk) 01:44, 11 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bias

[edit]

This article needs a massive clean up to remove the bias and emotive language all the way through it. I'm attaching the WP:POV tag. 203.122.242.126 (talk) 23:30, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coach from 2012

[edit]

Hey Guys, I pretty sure that Buckley will become senior coach for Collingwood from 2012 as part of a three year contact!

McAusten (talk) 09:53, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we know that Buckley has a three year contract that is due to start in 2012. I agree that it is very likely that Buckley will be the senior coach in 2012, however what if (horrible as this may sound) he's hit by a tram and dies tomorrow? I know that's pretty hyperbolic, but surely you can see the point that I (and, I think, a few other editors) have been trying to make in edit summaries. You may also wish to have a read of WP:CRYSTAL. It is ok, in my opinion, to add that Buckley is expected to start as senior coach in 2012 to the actual prose of the article, but to add succession boxes and to the infobox, when it is not 100% certain adds nothing to the article. What's the harm in waiting a year? Jenks24 (talk) 14:30, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

[edit]

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 09:42, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SANFL games

[edit]

Thejoebloggsblog added Buckley's SANFL games. As on AFL players I don't usually see state league games, I wanted to ask what is the consensus for this? The-Pope?

--SuperJew (talk) 06:48, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We've had this discussion a few times for various players and it's still a bit of grey area. IMO it's OK in this case because he wasn't on an AFL list at the time when he was at Port, so they weren't functioning as 'reserves' games. So I'm happy enough with Port being listed in the infobox, but wouldn't agree with his Williamstown stats (I know he played at least one game for them) being listed. Jenks24 (talk) 07:53, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If he had a significant career (he won the Magarey, didn't he?) then I'd be fine to add them. Generally would prefer an "all or none" approach, but have to agree that a couple of games in the reserves that happen to be a VFL/SANFL/WAFL team don't need to be listed. Categorised, yes, but infoboxed, no. IMO. The-Pope (talk) 11:46, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
