Alter Bridge
[edit]I think Myles should be referred to as the lead vocalists and guitarist of Alter Bridge. It isnt accurate to call him the rhythm guitarist anymore. While Mark is the lead guitarist for sure Myles' guitar duties are more then just a rhythm guitarists. When he first started with them he was but ever since Blackbird hes been really in between rhythm and lead guitar and I think he should be put as simply guitarist until explained later in the page. Unless someone gives me a reason otherwise I am going to remove "rhythm". Putting just guitarist does not imply anything other then he plays guitar but putting rhythm guitar implies he plays in the traditional rhythm guitar way which his playing for Alter Bridge really lies in between lead and rhythm guitar.<— Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.130.166.48 (talk) 06:28, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
Voice
[edit]I'm afraid that Myles Kennedy does not have a 5.5 octave range. Freddie Mercury and Jeff Buckley had only 3.5.
-> A stupid person got on and wanted to be funny by editing this. Kennedy had a 3 octave range. Also Jeff Buckley had a 4 octave range, not 3.5 in his normal voice...he has covered a range of 4.5 though, although it's not his normal.
The lady singer in the Rotary Connection had a 5 octave range. Sounds like a theremin when it's way up there!
I remember checking this article several months ago, and it was pretty complete. What the hell happened?? 66.50.214.167 01:44, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Uh, is Kennedy's range a 3 or 4 octave range? Also, there are very little sources and under trivia someone said he is the greatest vocalist in the world(not that I disagree) but this is a freakin' encyclopedia so I'm goin to delete that.Cubs07ftw 23:00, 3 November 2007 (UTC)
Wow, this page reads like a fanboy account in Circus Magazine. First-name usage where Kennedy is referred to as "Myles", random and extraneous material- wow. It reads like other crap someone tried to write about Layne Staley or Chris Cornel. This "He has a 12-octave range, and can hold a high C note for 4 mionutes and 11.673 secons" drivel has GOT to be etited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fendermatt (talk • contribs) 06:09, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Myles Kennedy does indeed have a 4 octave range. 63.248.11.9 (talk) 05:43, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
Range
[edit]Look, I'm not just some guy who likes to hate on a band for no reason - in fact, I love Alter Bridge, and I think they are the greatest modern rock band. However, I just had to remove that ridiculous claim about his vocal range.
Kennedy, while a great singer, does not possess a four octave range. At best he has 2.5 (3 is really pushing it). I noticed someone tried to claim that he can hold a note for a certain amount of time. Two points to make here - A) He doesn't actually hold the notes for as long as is claimed, B)holding a note for a prolonged period of time is not the equivalent of vocal range - it is to do with vocal power and lung capacity.
Ever since some blind fanboy added this to the article, it has been spread around - mostly thanks to this article by The Guardian that cites Wikipedia as a source, when it was just an unverified totally made up fanboy claim! And now everybody who pretends to know a thing or two about singing claims that Kennedy has a 4 octave range, but the reality is this is simply not the case.
Btw, I hope he doesn't tour with Zep, as that could be the end of Alter Bridge and we'll never see the new album. Even worse - the horrible shit stain of the music industry, Creed, may reform. 121.223.2.134 (talk) 08:38, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
- Gee, it's as if they weren't 3/4 the same band. Alex finds herself awake at night (Talk · What keeps her up) 15:58, 10 October 2009 (UTC)
- "At best he has 2.5 (3 is really pushing it)" - dude, are you serious? He's easily got a three octave vocal range. Four is possibly a stretch, though. 121.222.166.22 (talk) 06:20, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
Myles Kennedy does indeed have a 4 octave range. No question about it. There is a reliable source provided in the article. 63.248.11.9 (talk) 05:43, 18 January 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Live Light (talk • contribs)
Assessment
[edit]The article is much too detailed to be a stub. I suspect it was first assessed at Stub when it was one, but it's not any longer. The sourcing isn't great, but it's enough to rightly list it at C as I see it, though I wouldn't object to a re-assessment at Start. Hello! I am the reviewer, AJona1992. Please address the following concerns so this article be a GA, thank you.
Rate | Attribute | Review Comment |
---|---|---|
1. Well-written: | ||
1a. the prose is clear, concise, and understandable to an appropriately broad audience; spelling and grammar are correct. | The article fails Manual of Style and NPOV. Some sections like "Career" and "Personal life" uses too many run ons and fancrut.
This statement here: having been involved in several notable projects throughout his career fails NPOV, again we do not need to state that projects are "notable", Myles has an article because he is notable enough to be on Wikipedia. This sentence can do if you remove "notable" from there. Also that huge sentence that begins with "He has worked as a session musician and songwriter..." needs to be shorten, its a run on.
| |
1b. it complies with the Manual of Style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation. | The lead section fails Manual of Style and NPOV.
Stating that Myles is best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Alter Bridge and the touring vocalist of Slash's current solo project fails NPOV's characterizing opinions of people's work and attributing and specifying biased statements. If you can re-write that section, without stating "best known" (unless you can find a source that states this), also the reference here only states that Myles belongs to the group Alter Bridge and doesn't state that he is "best known" as their lead vocalist. Kennedy was born in Boston, Massachusetts - this needs to be at the very top of the lead section not towards the bottom was subsequently raised in Spokane, Washington -removed subsequently where he attended Spokane Falls Community College to study music theory -source? He began his music career in 1990 as the lead guitarist of the instrumental jazz ensemble Cosmic Dust, with which he released one studio album -explain? and source? (why should this be on the lead section, did this make him more notable in his career, did it jump start his career?)
| |
2. Verifiable with no original research: | ||
2a. it contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline. | this statement here: A former guitar instructor originally from the Spokane, Washington area, Kennedy is known for his ability as both a guitarist and a vocalist, possessing a tenor vocal range that spans four octaves is cited by their album's booklet which is original research.
His second band, Citizen Swing, released two studio albums before disbanding in 1995. He became the lead vocalist and lead guitarist of the Spokane-based rock band The Mayfield Four in 1996 -source?
| |
2b. reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose). | An album's booklet can't be cited as a reference. Too many claims not sourced.
| |
2c. it contains no original research. | The entire career and style and influences sections needs to be re-written, sourced, remove original research, it also fails NPOV. These sections also has a lot of fancrut. | |
3. Broad in its coverage: | ||
3a. it addresses the main aspects of the topic. | Looks good. | |
3b. it stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style). | A lot of run over on the section "Personal life". | |
4. Neutral: it represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each. | Fails NPOV | |
5. Stable: it does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute. | IPs continue to vandalize this article with unsourced negative content which was made two weeks ago, and is accompany by another one several days after. The article seems to be written or edit more often by IPs with vandalism history then by verified accounts. | |
6. Illustrated, if possible, by media such as images, video, or audio: | ||
6a. media are tagged with their copyright statuses, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content. | The images are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license | |
6b. media are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions. | Images are relevant to the topic and have appropriate captions. | |
7. Overall assessment. | Overall, the article needs help to getting a GA status. (look below for more comments) |
- The Mayfield Four disbanded in 2002. After declining an offer to audition as the lead vocalist of Velvet Revolver -why?
- He has released three studio albums with Alter Bridge -explain a little (have any of the album made it to music charts and record sales can help)
- Since early 2010, Kennedy has been touring extensively, switching between tours with Alter Bridge and Slash, his two main projects. He also has a solo album that he hopes to release in 2012 -remove extensively and hopes, why was he switching between tours?
- as well as a collaboration album with Slash to be released also in the future -explain?
- According to his profile on the Internet Movie Database, his father, Richard, died when he was four years old and his mother subsequently went on to marry a minister -removed this sentence which is based on OR
- He states that he spent a lot of time in the summer on vacation with his family at Lake Coeur d'Alene -explain? or removed too ORish
- He attended Mead High School and, finding musical inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder, began playing trumpet at the age of ten and guitar at fifteen, listening to Led Zeppelin records and copying the playing style of Jimmy Page. -Run on and source?
- He found his singing voice by listening to his parents' Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder records, and also states that he subconsciously was influenced by Robert Plant. -re write, source, explain, and remove subconsciously.
- He played guitar in the school's jazz band and trumpet in the marching band. -re write, source, why?
- After graduating in 1988, he enrolled in Spokane Falls Community College to study music -why?
- In "Personal life" section too many run ons "he said, she said" and "In an interview with, at".
- Discography section needs to include all studio albums that Myles was on.
- Filmography section needs sources.

Mini edit war
[edit]I was recently imposed in the midst of what appeared to be an edit war to change referenced content to this article. I was monitoring recent changes when I happened upon this edit. I have requested semi protection and hope this allows watchers of this page to verify that it is free of vandalism. If the content I reverted belongs in the article, accept my apologies, and correct to the best version. Cheers. My76Strat 20:21, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
No 4 octave range
[edit]http://therangeplace.forummotions.com/t322-myles-kennedy These guys now their bussines and dedicate themselves to see how much range a singer has. They pretty much check the whole discography of a singer plus live performances to see what notes do they hit. As you can see, the range he demonstrated publicly in his career goes from E2 to B♭5, that means, 3 octaves and six semitones, not 4 octaves. To have a four octave range he would need to have B♭1-B♭5 or E2-E6 which he hasn't, or any other notes that actually span 4 octaves between each other. So, please, change that as soon as possible, I don't know since when, but lately there's a lot of articles containing wrong information of how many octaves of range a singer has, and it looks like that information was even by people who can't even count musical intervals (octaves, semitones, tones) properly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.18.56.97 (talk) 23:03, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

- I do not mind a change, but let's get an image that is of better quality. - FlightTime (open channel) 23:26, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Walter Görlitz: Are you going to discuss this, or just edit war ? - FlightTime (open channel) 23:35, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
- The old image feels like a promotional headshot and does not show the subject "in action". I prefer the new image even though it's a longer shot and has stage smoke slightly blurring the subject. The subject isn't an actor and so one that shows the subject performing is a better choice. See the image used on Slash (musician), Bono (just picking musicians at random from the list of lead vocalists now) Eddie Van Halen, Tori Amos, John Cooper (musician), Ace Frehley, Peter Hooton, Tom Petty, Captain Beefheart, Geddy Lee, Shaun Morgan and Axl Rose. Compare with Miles Davis, David Byrne, Judith Durham, Peter Gabriel, Daryl Hall and Joan Jett. With the first set you clearly understand that the subject is a musician and which instruments the subject is known for. The latter, it's unclear. You might as well be looking at actors or politicians (Keanu Reeves, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ram Nath Kovind, Luísa Diogo or Yulia Tymoshenko. Walter Görlitz (talk) 23:45, 5 September 2018 (UTC)
