[edit]Lead
[edit]In the infobox, shouldn't Boston University tenure information be above Fordham's, since he was there for longer and seems to be more notable for his work there. It is a wonderful world (talk) 23:33, 24 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have always seen the offices listed in chronological order in this template. That seems to be a sensible approach. Ergo Sum 21:25, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- But the Boston office was first? It is a wonderful world (talk) 11:08, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I meant reverse chronological order. That's how it is pretty much always used. Ergo Sum 16:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- But the Boston office was first? It is a wonderful world (talk) 11:08, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
Early life
[edit]Do we know if he had any religious affiliation before entering the Society of Jesus?
- I do not find any source that comments on that. Ergo Sum 21:25, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Education
[edit]The "American Society for the Advancement of Science" and "American Association of Zoologists" sound notable enough to be redlinked.
- They do not seem to have Wikipedia pages. I'm not sure they ever will. Ergo Sum 21:26, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Boston College
[edit]During Walsh's presidency, a number of buildings were constructed, including the Roberts Center, a gymnasium, in 1958, McElroy Commons, a new dining hall, in 1961, and Carney Hall, a faculty office building, in 1964: I had to re-read this to fully understand the sentence, because it is not clear which rooms the dates are attached to until you reach the end of the sentence. ", 1958," could be referring to the building of the Roberts Center or the McElroy Commons.
- Clarified with better punctuation. Ergo Sum 21:28, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Link "board of regents"
- That article does not really describe the same thing as is meant by board of regents here. It is a specific meaning used briefly at Jesuit universities in the mid-20th century. Ergo Sum 21:30, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
I think "legal entity" should be linked, so the reader can go to that article if they want to understand the implications of that change.
Fordham University
[edit]Fordham was in the midst of a financial crisis: Is it possible to give financial figures before and after his tenure, to avoid pushing a narrative? As is done with "Student enrollment also increased from 10,000 to 14,000".
- I don't find specific figures, but I think the immediately following description of the debt, etc. clarifies it for the reader. Ergo Sum 21:30, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
members of Students for a Democratic Society took over and occupied Walsh's office: Do we know what their motivations were?
- The source does not say, but that group's article describes its ideology. Ergo Sum 21:31, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
denied tenure to a young, controversial professor: What was so controversial about him?
- Added detail from the source. Ergo Sum 21:34, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
but students [still] went on strike for days: Clearer
Later years
[edit]Link "Harriman College"?
The last paragraph is unfinished.

[edit]Reliability
[edit]Two history books published by universities, supplemented by news and university websites. All seem reliable.

- @Ergo Sum I am happy with all changes and justifications, except one minor point I responded to at the top. It is a wonderful world (talk) 11:11, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
