Proposed railway museum[edit]

I've cut and pasted the following addition out of the article. There are no references, so I've moved it here in case any references can be found in the future.

Today there is a plan for a small group of people to form Merriwa Railway Museum.
The first aim is to restored the badly run down railway station and good shed back to former glory. Then to restore the old turntable and water collum, track work would follow, the people will mow, wippersnip and use weed killer around the rail yard to get the yard look better. The next aim would be to restore around 5 to 10k of railway line from Merriwa and run tourist trains for the public.
One or two S wagons would be restored and put on display next to the old goods shed to show people the kind of rollingstock that was a daily sight on the line. A CPH rail Motor is an item of rollingstock that would be wanted for taking people on trips on the line if ever restored. The long term goal is to hopefully bring back the sight, sound and smell of steam on the line.
An SMR 10 class would be ideal for the line and two FO end platform cars. D50 and 30T class locomotives were the main common steam motive power on the line. With 3090 (preserved at Dorrigo Steam Railway & Museum) being the very last 30 class to work the line.
An SMR 10 class is amost a tank loco version of the NSWGR D50 class - Saturated boiler versions. Locomotive No. either 20, 26 or 31 currently in storage at Hunter Valley Railway Workshops would be an ideal loco for the line, as 20 and 31 are the two stored in the near best condition. SMR 26 is not to bad but would take a bit more work to return to steam then either 20 or 31.
So a SMR 10 class on lone would be the ultimate goal for the Merriwa Railway Muesum. At the time of writing this on Sunday 25 November 2007. The proposed group is under forming and emails and or letter to Councils, and NSW Government are yet to be done.
