Tripoint: a habitable planet discovered?

[edit]

The last sentence of the article reads: "Tripoint however discloses a more promising fate for the renegade fleet; it reveals that a far-off, habitable planet has been discovered and a new colony is being secretly built there." I don't recall this in Tripoint. A new Fleet drop-point was revealed, but not a planet, unless my brain was switched off when I read that part. --Bruce1ee 06:48, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Pella, the navigator lent to Corinthian from Europe discloses to Hawkins that the leaf he has (from Pell's arboretum) is not important, that there's a whole planet full, that she helped The Fleet/Europe (it's not clear) to find. It's in the very last segment of the book. Bo-Lingua 14:02, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies all, my mistake. I remember it now – it was the leaf that jogged my memory (I need to re-read the book). --Bruce1ee 14:13, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries...that's the nice thing about Wikipedia...there's lots of us hanging around contributing, so what one forgets, hopefully another remembers. :) As always, a pleasure contributing with you Bruce1ee. Bo-Lingua 15:55, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

India destroyed?

[edit]

Why would it be more likely that India was destroyed? I would think that the Alliance government could use another carrier like Norway, capable of policing the star-lanes and standing its own against poorly supplied Mazianni. Bo-Lingua 17:28, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In Finity's End, it mentions that Norway and Finity's End form the core of the Alliance militia. Besides, I can't imagine that Keu would surrender his vessel to Mallory - it would significantly increase the danger to the rest of the Mazianni. Clarityfiend 18:36, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I got the feeling that India was very low on supplies, and there was no way it could've jumped out of the system, so I'm lead to think that it was captured/beseiged, unless Keu kamikazed Thule, since we know he didn't take the station. That's all I can think. Bo-Lingua 18:45, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just checked the solstation.com timeline to confirm my impression: Rimrunners takes place earlier, roughly between 2353 and 2355, whereas Finity's End is set around 2370. So, since India isn't mentioned as part of the Alliance navy in the latter, I think it's safe to say it's gone. Keu could have blown the ship himself (I'm sure it would have been set up as a contingency). I suppose it is barely possible that it was captured and then destroyed in combat sometime between the two books, but that's stretching it. Clarityfiend 20:07, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be better to say that the status of India is unclear, but it is suspected that it was destroyed either by Norway & Finity's End or Keu's command, as the ship is not mentioned in any other book in the A-U universe? Bo-Lingua 21:39, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Go ahead and change it if you want. We're spending waaay too much time on this. Clarityfiend 23:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you say so...I figure we're all volunteers, so any time we spend here is time well spent. :) Bo-Lingua 01:13, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Volunteers? You mean you aren't being held captive by 3 little old wikiholics? In that case, GET ME OUTA HERE! Clarityfiend 18:09, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Volunteers, yeah, that's right. Just like most of Mazian's "recruits" after 2353.... Fairsing 18:27, 21 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'd volunteer if it meant that I wouldn't get shot instead... Bo-Lingua
