– No clear primary topic, the given name has 105 views but the Ghaziabad one has 1,175, the Ahmednagar one has 313, the Pashtun tribe has 48, the Bijapur one has 10 and the Punjab one has 8[[1]]. Although the given name may be primary by long-term significance it isn't by usage. It is also on User:Certes/misdirected links#Places. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:24, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. If Loni has a primary topic, it's Loni, Ghaziabad. It has a population of half a million, and most of the incoming links to Loni that I've corrected over the years are about that town. However, changing the primary topic would be disruptive, and the proposal as written seems the best compromise. The tribe and a few other entries need to move from the name article now titled Loni to the dab which should be titled Loni. Certes (talk) 20:15, 26 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is a recurring theme - people habitually overlink toponyms because it's pretty simple, not unlike they used to do with dates before MOS:UNLINKDATES. The fact that something like that happens should not have undue relevance to navigation layout, because that would be placing editor behavior above reader behavior. --Joy (talk) 15:12, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and Certes. The given name is indeed not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 03:09, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • This looks like a bit of a bias towards main English-speaking countries, where one is more likely to encounter the term in reference to individual people than in reference to the locations. If we look at total traffic for Loni and for Loni (disambiguation) we can see that the interest in the places is <100/day, while the interest in Loni Anderson is >2000/day and in Loni Love >750/day. If we just swap these two pages as proposed, this will relegate the biographies to 2 clicks away, which doesn't make sense either, it would be another bad case of WP:NAMELIST, so I oppose that part. Instead I'd just merge the two lists and see how that works. --Joy (talk) 15:03, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Clickstreams aren't plentiful, a look into the archive shows little:
clickstream-enwiki-2023-08.tsv:Loni Lonnie link 11
clickstream-enwiki-2023-08.tsv:Lonnie Loni link 17
clickstream-enwiki-2023-09.tsv:Loni Loni_(disambiguation) link 12
clickstream-enwiki-2023-10.tsv:Lonnie Loni link 11
So we don't have any more proof that people are using Loni in large numbers to navigate to the hatnote compared to proof that they're browsing between similar given names. --Joy (talk) 15:09, 27 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
