Featured List[edit]

It's an FL now, the first "List of characters" article to be one. I'd like to thank everyone who helped out in some form or another. Next target is probably List of Metal Gear Solid 2 characters

Decoy Octopus[edit]

I think it said in the game manual that he drains the blood of his target to properly impersonate them, which would also explain why the FOXdie virus affected him... Jackacon 19:37, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Main Characters[edit]

Why is Gray Fox in the main character list? He is cool, undoubtedly, but is he a main character? What makes a character 'main', is it their importance to the story line, can the story line survive without them? If this is the case the Fox maybe a main character, after all, without his information in Metal Gear 2 and solid, and his help against metal gear Snake would probably be dead, if this is the case though, what about other characters integral to the story line, like the Boss and Big Boss, Liquid Snake, Solidus and a load of others.

Basically, being very, very, moist underpants cool does not mean you are a main character, if Fox is a main character, fair enough, but so are others. Really though this list should be restrictive, focusing on the protagonists, such as snake and Big Boss, maybe the main bad guys aswell.

Every character needs to be delt with. There's not point adding 3 pages of mindless plot summary to Solid Snake and a little bit on Fox. And what are you on about Big Boss, he's a character in spirt only, he's dead. Also wherelse are you gonna put Fox?

†he Bread3000 02:51, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gray Fox is a main character because he is integral to the storyline. FIrst of all, he gives information to help Snake via Codec. He also helps Snake survive throughout the game (eg. cutting off Ocelot's hand). And in the end, there is a long conversation during the boss battle against Metal Gear REX. Ultimately, he also destroys REX's radome to expose the cockpit, allowing Snake to defeat it. If this isn't "main" character material, I don't know what is. who actually voices sniper wolf?[edit]

the article says Tasia Valenza, but the game screenshot says Julie Monroe. which is it? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.10.60.78 (talk) 22:43, 24 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Julie Monroe is an alias, Tasia Valenza is her real name

Darpa Chief[edit]

Newbie at this, but in the section where it says the Darpa Chief was killed by Ocelot under torture should there be be mention that he was Sigint from Snake Eater, and he would have been killed for recognising Ocelot (or his codename) from the Operation Snake Eater mission? Just to highlight the connection. Omicronlegion 19:17, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It hasn't been confirmed that Sigint is Donald Anderson and as such it's WP:OR

Decoy Octopus a she?[edit]

Why is Decoy Octopus referred to as a female in this article? It seems pretty apparent from the sources, including direct quotations from the game, (and everything else I'd ever heard) that Octopus was a male. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.12.143.27 (talk) 09:11, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Snake did NOT kill Liquid![edit]

Tis article states that Snake killed every FOXHOUND member except for Ocelot and Octopus. Not true! Liquid was killed by FOXDIE, not because Snake had anything to do with it. Correct that!--Kim Kusanagi 18:25, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mgssgc062.jpg[edit]

Image:Mgssgc062.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Is Decoy Octopus mexican?[edit]

He is listed in the category:Mexican Videogame characters... but there are no signs of his origins whatsoever (from what I remeber at least...). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.153.95.165 (talk) 01:33, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FOXHOUND Pics[edit]

Just added the concept art for each one. I can't get Octopus' to look right with so little text, though. If someone could help that, I'd be grateful.

To be consistent with the List of Snake Eater characters article, should I use cropped model pictures, or keep with the concept art? User:TalonTheater (talk) 18:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Psycho Mantis[edit]

Psycho Mantis was also voted Number 1 bad guy in Game Informer's most recent issue. The Dark Fiddler (talk) 00:19, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it worth mentioning that the way the player kills Psycho Mantis is by switching controller ports? Grieferhate (talk) 14:36, 5 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Big boss[edit]

a minor caracter? he one of the mayor caracter, someone fix that —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.86.230.17 (talk) 21:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not in this game. He's dead. Well he was until MGS4 came along, god that game was shit. †he Bread3000 12:46, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

MGS4 SPOILER[edit]

Hey, don't mean to cause any problems, and i am kinda new to this, but I came to this article for a little background info on an original mgs character (namely donald anderson). there was no indication of any kind that it would spoil the plot of a later game. This article must have got changed fairly recently and I just think it is a little unfair. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place. I was just wondering if someone could fix this issue in a fair way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.45.48.159 (talk) 06:43, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If no-one objects[edit]

I'm gonna get rid of {{anime voices}} which lists the VA. It's clumbsy and makes the article look so. It looked much better without. †he Bread3000 12:52, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG External Links check[edit]

This Featured Article has a total of four dead external links. They can be found here. Please fix them as soon as possible. Thanks! --haha169 (talk) 00:41, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Links look good, but be constant with those accessdaymonth and accessyear combo. — Dispenser 01:13, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Liquid Snake section needs rewording[edit]

The second paragraph in the Liquid Snake section makes no sense:

One of Liquid's motivations is his hatred towards Solid Snake, as Liquid believes that Solid received all of Big Boss' dominant genes, and that he, Liquid, was destined to be inferior. It is revealed after the credits that Liquid was intentionally deceived in order to carry on Big Boss' legacy. This is in line with the game's interpretation of the nature versus nurture debate, as the greater experience that Solid has on the battlefield enables him to defeat Liquid, despite his supposed "genetic dominance" and his personal grudge with Solid, due to him thinking Solid is in fact the dominant one.

Solid defeats Liquid despite his (Solid's) supposed genetic dominance?
"...and his personal grudge with Solid"? Who does "his" refer to in that sentence?

It would make more sense if Liquid had the supposed dominant genes, except that his motivation relies on him thinking he is inferior.

It seems like the person who wrote this was trying to cram as much information as possible into one sentence, but the meaning was lost. Someone who knows what this is supposed to say should reword it.

By the way, I checked the citation provided, and it doesn't even mention Liquid. It does, however, mention genetic makeup and says that the game was right to take the "nurture" side of the debate. Player 03 (talk) 04:25, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
