Defaced

To quote "A Union Flag defaced with the Star of India" for flag of the Governer general of India but isn't defaced a negative verb and imply it was done without concern but this was intentional, no? VarunRajendran

  • Its a standard term in describing flags which have another symbol superimposed on top. Governors of the British colonies always used a Union Flag defaced with the colonies coat of arms or some other symbol. Astrotrain 10:27, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

State ensign?

Anyone want to contribute an image of the State Ensign? [1] --ScottMainwaring 03:22, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

State flags?

If I understand correctly, there are no "official" Indian state flags (except maybe J&M). Please see: http://www.crwflags.com/FOTW/FLAGS/in-.html Can someone confirm this are prove otherwise? I also asked this question on Commons. --Jeroen (talk) 20:56, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned references in List of Indian flags

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of List of Indian flags's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "FOTW":

  • From Flag of India: Heimer, Željko (2 July 2006). "India". Flags of the World. Retrieved 2006-10-11.
  • From Flag of Ireland: Ireland, Flags of the World, 2001. Retrieved on 11 June 2007.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 22:54, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Civil air ensign

Does India have a civil air ensign? Greenshed (talk) 18:03, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

I don't know what that means, but you might see Air India. - Kautilya3 (talk) 19:59, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
A civil air ensign is a form of the national flag which represents civil aviation. For example Pakistan has:

I imagine the British Civil Air Ensign was used before independence but I am a little surprised that I cannot find any references to an Indian Civil Air Ensign after 1947. Greenshed (talk) 02:13, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Mughal flag?

The Mughal flag depicted here is doubtful. I remember that the Mughal flag was a white rectangle, with a golden sun depicted on the right middle, but unfortunately could not recall the source.- Gopalan_evr —Preceding unsigned comment added by 164.100.140.43 (talk) 19:59, 30 December 2009 (UTC)

Why no Mughal Flag?

Why is'nt the Mughal flag added yet? Mughals are perhaps the only pan indian empire after 2 millenia. And mughal emperors are patronized by both Indians and Pakistan alike(Indian side don't really have a positive opinion about Delhi Sultanate) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.97.2.252 (talk) 12:12, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Sikkim

Could someone please add flag used by Sikkim, when they were still an independent kingdom? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.10.40.11 (talk) 01:24, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Royal Indian Air Force ensign

From c. 1945 to 1947, the Royal Indian Air Force appears to have had the ensign as depicted at http://flagsvancouver.com/fotw/flags/in%5Eaf.html Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of Die Luftwaffenflaggen Großbritanniens und der Commonwealth-Staaten to verify this. Perhaps the ensign is still laid up at the National Defence Academy - originally in Clement Town. See [2] for details of its laying up. Greenshed (talk) 07:32, 28 December 2017 (UTC)
