Formatting issue

[edit]

The Console games section uses the format Title - platforms - release date, while the Computer games section has title and release date under separate platform subheadings. I'm wondering if a consistent formatting style should be used throughout. I want to expand the Computer games section to include Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, C64, MSX and ZX Spectrum, but I'd like to clear this up first. --Muchness 17:04, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Well the PC games dont need to say GAME - PC - YEAR ... or GAME - MAC - YEAR as such they didnt include it, I would argue that they are following that format but since the data would be the same on every entry its assumed. I would love for you to include Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, C64, MSX, ZX, etc... We're trying to get a complete list, I was originally unable to find a list of those when I expanded this.  ALKIVAR 15:30, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What I meant was that the computer games could be formatted as TITLE - Amiga, Apple II, DOS, Mac - DATE, or consoles could be separated into SNES, PS2, Xbox etc subcategories. But if it's fine in its current state, I'll go ahead and add the other platforms. --Muchness 17:04, 12 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to go through the effort of sorting to smaller SNES/PS2/Xbox/etc... lists I would have no problem with that.  ALKIVAR 13:51, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Dragon Dice D&D?

[edit]

There's a hi-res scan of the Dragon Dice box cover here (back cover here). There doesn't appear to be any reference to D&D on the box, and the game itself appears to have no connection to the D&D license. Does it belong in this article? --Muchness 01:39, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

No, it absolutely does not. It is based on a completely different game. I tried to remove it yesterday, but Alkivar reverted me twice, claiming, incorrectly, that it does in fact say D&D on it. PurplePlatypus 03:19, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Fucking odd... that is not the same front box cover for my copy of Dragon Dice for PC (the back is the same tho)... mine is an ivory colored box with a cover layout very similarly to the old Gold Box games with a quite prominent "Advanced Dungeons & Dragons" logo and the TSR circle dragon logo. I wonder if mine is either an early promo release or an outright bootleg. If this is the official cover that you guys have I will not argue anymore about its removal. (although to be fair ... do those Star Wars d20 games really belong either?)  ALKIVAR 13:49, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I talked a bit about that on my talk page, but briefly:
  • D&D and the ruleset underlying KotOR: At most, about as different as your two favorite poker variants; still recognizably the same basic rules.
  • D&D and Dragon Dice: About as different as poker and chess; not even the same kind of game. PurplePlatypus 22:45, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Personally I favor removing the Star Wars games and Dragon Dice, and limiting the article to licensed D&D games that are based on an edition of the D&D ruleset and/or use a D&D campaign setting. --Muchness 01:11, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Gold Box blurb

[edit]

I removed the following blurb on Gold Box games because I couldn't verify the info; Gold Box games are not currently selling for large sums on eBay.

Several of the early D&D computer games were published in gold boxes and used a common interface. These games, collectively and unofficially called the "Gold Box" series, are popular collector's items and sell on eBay for frequently large sums.

Format

[edit]

In response to concerns raised on this article's WP:FLC discussion, I propose a tables-based format for the list:

Title Date Publisher Platform Campaign setting Notes
Pool of Radiance 1988 SSI DOS, Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, Commodore 64, Macintosh Forgotten Realms Part of the Gold Box series.

[edit]

DOS based game: Fantasy Empires has an incorrect internal link, pointing to a Wiki entry about the online PvP text based game, Fantasy Empires. This needs to be corrected and a new page created for the D&D version of Fantasy Empires.
